AFAIK the Kraken Pro just has a single analogue 3.5mm input jack. If that is the case, the issue is not with the headphones, but with the sound card. What I suspect is that you are setting your sound card to surround sound, even though you don't have anything plugged into the center/sub or surround channel output jacks. In that case all you will hear is the audio intended to go to the front left and right speakers - which would sound just like you describe.
If you want surround sound over your Kraken headphones, you need to turn on a virtual surround function like Dolby Headphone, or Creative's CMSS3D - and then make sure the sound card is set to headphones. It really comes down to what sound card you are using and if it supports those features, as not all do.
First off, what exactly are you using to output sound? If using onboard sound like I'm guessing you are, exactly what motherboard do you have?
My suggestion for now is just make sure you have everything set to stereo, both in the sound card driver settings, windows playback device settings, and in applications like VLC.
