Razer is coming out with a new gaming mouse, the Death Adder.

What do you all think?

I'm in the market for a new mouse (my two year old MX1000 can't keep a charge anymore) and was considering the G5 for 35.99 at Best Buy until I saw that this was on the horizon. I'm thinking I'll wait it out now and see if this mouse has anything to offer.

the mouse hasn't hit retail yet has it? I'm interested in checking it out, as I am with most Razer products.

I think the mouse is just now shipping from certain retail channels (like direct from the Razerstore) but Amazon lists a ship date of 1/30/07.

Death Adder? That was the name of the final enemy in the old arcade game, Golden Axe. :p

Yeah alot of people seem to be noticing that :p I think Razer is referring to the snakes though. All of their mice have been named after deadly snakes back to the Boomslang, and their new peripherals are taking the names of other deadly creatures (keyboard = tarantula).

Not to mention the lethal Armadillo.

Their mice are named for snakes (usually very lethal ones - in order to sound more badass I assume - although the irony wouldn't be lost on the most harmless of snakes, as snakes usually target rodents - mice - as their primary source of food...)

The keyboards have a spider theme now with the Tarantula and Reclusa - I'm guessing because they also want to stick with the creature theme. First thing that comes to my mind when I try to force an explanation as to why spiders other than simply going with the creepy creature theme would be fingers = spider legs.

Although I don't know if I can come up with an explanation for the audio stuff, otherwise they're just going with a killer sea creature theme.

I have been on the search for this mouse since it came out...no one seems to carry it...Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA...have yet to find it in a brick and mortar store.

I was just going to get a Logitech G5 until I heard about the Habu and Death Adder...I have seen the Habu, and found the removable and adjustable side buttons a bit on the flimsy side.

I've had the DeathAdder for a long time now, and they've pretty much fixed all of its launch flaws on the firmware/software side of things. So far you had to get it online, not sure when it'll be widely available, I'd imagine soon as its pretty much perfect now they've fixed its flaws - I'd prefer it with two more buttons like the Habu, as well as built in memory to store profiles (and thus not need drivers for unique settings), but I guess that'd be too much competition for the Habu for Microsoft's liking ;)

As far as flimsy Habu side buttons...my @$$. I can stab, pound and squeeze those buttons all I want and they're solid. now if you're referring to the feel of the click - very shallow compared to Logitech side buttons, now that is an entirely different story.

G5 is a NASTY mouse. I've used one, it's a great unit. I know somebody else who owns a DeathAdder, he called it the best 80 bucks he's ever spent.

Dang it I was just about to order a Death Adder on newegg when I see that the first review is a 3 outta 5 stars and the guy lists numerous reasons why he doesn't like the mouse.

I am between this one, the Habu, and the MX-518 right now. I love the IDEA of the G5, but it doesn't have 2 buttons on the left side! I MUST have 2 buttons on the left side, for Warcrafting purposes.

Don't trust that review, he doesn't know what he's talking about, the only thing that might be true is the liftoff distance for cloth pads. Acceleration is perfect now with the new firmware, tracking was greatly improved as well - reducing liftoff distance greatly for many users (and solving other odd problems) - I can prop my DeathAdder up on a pair of CDs and it will cease to track from that distance on my black Icemat 2nd Ed surface.

The button sensitivity is probably just a matter of opinion, and it is of my opinion that he is probably a clumsy oaf who needs the extra sticky primary buttons of the Habu to be happy (much harder to rapidly click my Habu buttons over my DeathAdder or Copperhead, or even my MX510)
