Rayman legends is the best 2d platformer I've ever played

So, I bought Rayman Origins for the ps2 a month or two ago to play with my gf. We had a blast and then got stuck on the last couple of bosses. I then ordered Legends, because the price came down to ~$25 on amazon.

Holy crap, this game is phenomenal. So much better than Origins. Especially during the musical levels. The "Castle Rock" level had me grinning ear to ear as I was sliding and jumping to avoid explosions synched up with 'black betty." Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5QoFmYaQaQ

This game is better than any 2d mario or dk game I've played. If you want some AAA platforming, there's no need to get a wii u :)

IMO, one of the few (only?) multiplatform releases where the Wii U version was markedly superior. The Murphy levels were really cool and really demonstrated the neat co-op potential of the gamepad.

Unfortunately, the Murphy levels were also pretty terrible in single player, as the computer AI was fairly good, but would occasionally cause stupid deaths and was unpredictable at times.

I really liked Rayman Origins, but I was playing with my 6 year old daughter, and it hit a point where the difficulty level was just way too high for her to be able to participate (and even I was struggling a bit) towards the end.

Do you think Legends is more accessible?

If it's not the best I've played it's in the top 3 for sure.

I just finished getting all 700 Teensies last weekend (played on the Wii u)

Fulle: Legends is more accesible in my opinion they fine tuned a lot from origins and the controls/mechanics just feel smoother however there are going to be levels that are just tough regardless.

Legends might be more difficult in some ways. If you're playing 2 player (as opposed to 3 or 4), the Murphy levels require both players to be fairly competent, since it takes away the ability of one player to carry the entire team.

Subjectively, I thought the difficulty in Legends was higher in the later levels than in Origins. I think the bosses were also more difficult, but it's been a long time since I've played Origins so it could have been that my platforming was just rusty.

Thank you for the response, artemicion! We might need some practice before taking this one on... Still a few green stars to hunt in 3D World anyways.

I could never get into the recent Rayman platformers...something about the art and animation of the characters made me feel like there was something stopping me from playing the game naturally. The controls almost felt disconnected.

I liked the music from Origins as annoying as it was sometime. It still pops in my heart now and then. And the art for the levels and NPCs was great.

I haven't played Legends.

No prob. FWIW, I'd still recommend the game. It's fantastic. You could probably get through most of the game with your daughter and there's nothing wrong with setting a high bar for the two of you to strive toward.

I just picked this up on the ps4. Excellent game and it looks like there's quite a bit of replayability if I get into it enough.

The definitive version of this game is on Wii U :p

On this forums advice, I picked it up a couple weeks ago. It is the best platformer I have ever seen. I absolutely love the art, and the gameplay is a blast.

I cant imagine it on another console, including my 360. How do you do the levels with Murfy?

I had to Google the difference, and I still don't know without playing both. So in the wii u version, you don't control Rayman and only control Murphy?

I never lose control over rayman, and I press a button to trigger Murphy actions. I'll be running through the level as normal, and I tap circle to cut the rope or whatever Murphy needs to do.

Murphy can be controlled via a second player using the gamepad on the Wii U.

Murphy is only ever controlled by the O button or the L1 & L2 buttons on the ps3.

Does the Wii U version have the musical/rhythm levels at the end of the stage. Castle Rock is my favorite platformer level, ever.

The Wii U version has all the stages/features in the other versions as far as I know. The biggest difference i've experienced is being able to control Murphy's actions with the touch screen while the computer controlled the other character .
I usually played with another player so it didn't really affect me.

Another vote for Rayman Legends being an awesome game. I won't claim it's perfect, but alongside Rayman Origins it's arguably the best 2D platformer of the last decade.:D

That is a very good point and does need to be pointed out. For multiplayer the Wii U version is the definitive version, but I would not suggest playing it or the Vita version for single player. Both put you in control of Murfy, which isn't much fun by yourself (and really shouldn't even be an option for the Vita version since it's a handheld console). The Murfy levels are rather simplistic gameplay wise; the enjoyment from them comes from the asymmetric gameplay and trying to coordinate your timing with other players.
