.. and the collection agency has my cell phone number.

I'm not Ray Richards.

So far, I've gotten two voice mails. One yesterday and one today. I'll eventually get a live call. What do you guys think are the chances that I can convince them I'm not Ray Richards?

Forget 'bout it. I've been getting phones calls for a "Gabriel Martinez" about an "urgent matter" for months. I've told them I'm not the person they are looking for, but they still call. What are my rights?

Good luck. Tell them that they have a wrong number and to take yours out of the system. If they call back, ask for company name and address and tell them that you are going to file a complaint with the Attorney's General office in both your state and their state. If that doesn't work, actually file the complaint.

It's amazing how fast they apologize and remove your information once they receive a letter from the Attorney General!

Sue them.

http://www.dallasobserver.com/2010-...g-bill-collectors-off-his-back-he-sues-them/1

That guy posts on FWF. Questionable moral character, but he knows his consumer protection laws.

After reading this, I've concluded some people believe it's okay to steal.

"People are brainwashed to think that paying a credit card is more important than paying for the necessities of life," Katz says. "If you're in a position where you have to make a choice, my argument is food, clothing and shelter come first... Nobody ever went to hell for not paying a debt."

================

Since nobody has showed up to bail Cunningham out, he's decided some of the $100,000 debt he once amassed will never get paid back.

"I already paid them off," he says. "The government took my money without asking me and gave it to the banks. And since I owe the banks money, but they already got my money from the government, I say we're even."

Cunningham may feel justified in his actions but Katz is a through-and-through fuckhead.

I recently got a new work cell phone and some collection agency kept calling me. Since I work for a county government, I just walked up to the states attorney's office and asked if someone could tell them to stop.

They never called again

It's the same as all these people walking away from their debts citing "business decision".

Yo holmes, if you weren't spending all your money on pot, 26" wheels and stolen stereo/gaming gear each month...maybe, just maybe you could pay your bills.

I have been getting calls for YEARS since I got this phone number from various agencies looking for a guy who used to have the number. I keep telling them to stop calling but either it's a new group or the one the first time didn't get the message and only with careful words can I now get out that they have to abide by the fair debt collections act and to stop calling. I still want to actually have one lady I called die from a car accident for how she was on the phone.

They are very fvcking irritating to receive.

Me too. And Lopez. And Ibenez. And Garcia.
Hate living in a town full of illegal aliens. Many times they give their bosses or banks or Insta-PayDay places a false number. I had to ditch my last cell phone number because of it.
I wonder how many of them give out false SSN's as well.

As for your rights, threaten to call the cops and charge them with harassment. If they dont believe you, you will actually have to do it. Bit of a hassle, but the first time you do it the creditors will remember, and it will be a LONG time before anyone bothers you again.

Wow I can totally relate. A few months back I opened a line with t-mobile and had a new phone number that I eventually find out verrry fast was recycled. I was getting on average 2-3 calls a day from various area codes all over the United States looking for a Victor Santos. This guy did virtually EVERYTHING and had numerous debt collectors after him on virtually everything imaginable. He had a couple people looking for him regarding some cars he sold (guess he was a used car salesmen or something), but the best part was many many women calling and asking for him.

Eventually I stopped answering the calls, but they'd all leave voice mails. I listened to some epic voice mails from a woman threatening to kill him. Then I got tired of it and asked t-mobile for a new number.

Give it up, Ray "boomerang" Richards.
Nah, but you gave me a good chuckle.

No call today so far. I don't think they work weekends though.

What's interesting is that the calls are automated and start out with "If you are not Ray Richards, please do not listen to this message", or something like that. So, keep receiving the messages, but just don't listen to them. Rather absurd if you think about it.

I understand what you are going through. Unfortunately this collection effort has ensnared again the wrong Ray Richards. The Ray Richards they are attempting to collect from is NOT an attorney, engineer or otherwise! In fact upon information and belief the collection effort was/is erroneous. Beware of further efforts to collect by the debt collection agency in regards to a Ray Richards!

Since the last response to this was in 2010 and the OP isn't in jail, I'm going to assume his problem ended.

Tell them you ARE Ray Richards, that it will be a cold day in hell before you ever pay them, don't call you anymore, and if they want to sue you, have at it. Finish with a string of profanity and accuse them of having a sexual relationship with their mother.

It's a great stress reliever :D
