No despite my objection to the excessive reaction to Ray Rice I am wondering how you even connected that to women deserved to be raped just because of any clothing they are or are not wearing.

Because they are both examples of victim blaming.

I'm not really sure what the NFL will use to back this up. I have a feeling that "indefinite" will change to 6 weeks pretty quickly. I also have a feeling that the NFL had previously seen the video released today. I don't condone his actions - I just don't want a precedent set where NFL policy is whatever gets yelled the loudest by the masses. If you have a policy, enforce it across the board. Hopefully, the NFL will come out with a detailed explanation of their decision, but I doubt it. Personally, I think they should just change it to one convicted incident and you're out for good. This willy-nilly enforcement leaves too much room for interpretation.

Scum bag thug deserves some time in jail. But since he throws a ball real good, I'm sure he won't get any more than a slap on the wrist.

Wasnt she just a fiancee at the time of the incident? It must not have been bad enough that she still married him (most likely for the money). But if he is cut with no guarenteed money. Maybe now she will file for divorce and get HALF!!? (Eddie Murphy), before it runs dry? :p

Haven't seen the video but the description I heard was he hit her once, she put her arms up and he then knocked her the fuck out.

I can't see the video, but it sounds like there was a heated argument, and she slapped him, he slapped her, she then came at him as if she was attacking him, and he jawed her once. I will have to watch it when I get home.

It should be noted, this video was available to police, who deemed it tame enough of an incident to give him the first time offender treatment.

Pffft. Bitch can't take a punch.

Not sure you could blame her for that.

Didn't everyone already know that this is exactly what happened?

I'm getting a little fed up with today's society where, if something isn't captured on HD video, it didn't happen.

If you think you know more about those contracts, feel free to attempt to expound upon how I am incorrect.

I don't know anything about MLB contracts, but tell me why NPR is wrong:

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way...alls-miguel-cabrera-lets-dig-into-that-number

Q: Is he really guaranteed to get this money?

A: The basic answer is yes. When a major leaguer signs a contract for a set number of years at a set annual salary, the team is committed to pay him. That's part of the players' deal with Major League Baseball.

Or: http://sabr.org/research/baseball-s-major-salary-milestones

Today all contracts are guaranteed, so whatever salary is contracted will be paid, regardless of whether a team cuts a player.

1 Paragraph 7(e) of the standard player contract specifically states that if the club terminates the contract it shall be obligated to continue to pay the player the balance of the salary set forth in the contract. This is backed up by the collective bargaining agreement, which specifically mentions termination conditions. If the club terminates a player contract the termination pay due a player is equal to the unpaid balance of the contracted salary. In short, this means that all contracts are now guaranteed, whether or not the team cuts the player.

NFL contracts are just as guranteed as baseball contracts.

SMARTASS ALERT!!!

My comment on contracts was to inform the other person that the non-guaranteed salaries were not a fault of Rice having a poor agent, but standard contract terms across the entire NFL. The MLB union is very strong and has been able to achieve guaranteed salaries as a standard basis in constructing MLB player contracts. The NFL union has not been that strong and has not been able to muscle such terms into standard NFL player contracts.

MLB players are able to win such terms with an owner because if the owner does not agree, chances are very likely the player will achieve those terms with a competing owner. In the NFL, that is not the case. An NFL player does not have the power to achieve a guaranteed salary because it is highly unlikely a competing owner will sign the player to such terms. And it's due in large part to the actions of the players union, the solidarity of the union members, and the value of the union & individual players to the profitability of the team business.

I haven't seen it mentioned...or clarified...was this video available PRIOR to the NFL / Police involvement?

If the answer is yes, than this is pretty bad for the NFL to only take this sort of action until after it became public...

If the answer is no, then how in the holy hell can TMZ get a hold of this video yet the law and NFL 'have apparently' never seen it?

Either way this looks bad obviously for Rice who is a scum bag...as well as the NFL for blowing off how this would look to the public.

I would be pretty worried if I were that S.F. lineman that was recently arrested for a similar ordeal...

NFL and Ravens say they didn't see it until today. Peter King and an ESPN report from a couple months ago would seem to contradict that.

What it looks like is the NFL didn't see the video (or, they are claiming, at least) until today. However, the police had the video from day one.

Also, I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, but TMZ is claiming they altered the video and "cleaned it up". So, take that as you will.

We know a great deal less about the NFL's investigation. We know that NFL got its hands on the full elevator tape.

The police had this video from the beginning. Not sure about the NFL. The police, though, have alleged all along that Rice knocked her out in the elevator. He was indicted for aggravated assault by a grand jury.

No question.

Not "the NFL". Roger Goodell.
