19million signing bonus on top of 7 years, 50 million.

Wow.

Amazingly enough, this new contract saves Baltimore almost 2 million on this year's cap.

Ray Lewis is the best defensive player in the league, and arguably the best overall player in the league. But that is ridiculous.

Completely different situation. Baseball is a free spending, no salary cap world where it is more common to see those lucrative deals.. the NFL you need to stay within a salary cap, although being creative with the structuring isn't out of the question, you do have a limit. I knew the signing bonus money would keep going up, but 19 million, especially for a MLB, holy jebus. Ray Lewis was not the player I imagined getting that level first... I don't know when Peyton Manning's contract runs out, but before knowing Lewis was gonna get it, I'd have guessed Manning would first.

I knew it would happen, but the shock comes from WHO got it.

In sports, my opinion is that you're worth what someone is willing to pay you. ARod and Lewis probably pay for their own contract in how much revenue they generate for their team.

That's great news for murderers everywhere!! Maybe this will entice Orenthal back into the league. Well probably not since he's too busy playing golf?..errrr?.I mean looking for the "real" murderers.

That 19 million dollars is spread over the life of the contract. At 2.7 million a year, it doesn't sound that obscene.

Not bad for a thug who was facing Murder Charges just a few years ago. Lesson to be learned out of this. In todays society it doesn't matter if you are a scumbag lowlife asswipe, as long as you put asses in the seats come game time (Same could be said for AI)

Especially since he should be in jail after helping (or at least observing) his thug friends kill two guys here in Atlanta. Two people dead, evidence everywhere, witnesses, and he gets off with an "obstruction of justice" slap on the wrist. Complete crock, IMO. :|

Sad. The Ravens have learned nothing from the last year or so. What are they going to do when they have a 34 y.o. LB/double murderer making 7 million a year?

Stupid. I wouldn't have paid any player other than a QB that much money. LB is not a critical position in most defensive schemes, and even if it was they could find a solid MLB for a fraction of that money. Then use the rest to fill in the HUGE holes they have all over their team. Add to that Lewis' penchant for getting in trouble and bringing bad publicity to the team, and I wonder if the owners were smoking crack when they came up with that deal.

EDIT: I am a big Texas Rangers fan and I love A-Rod. But I wouldn't have given ANY baseball player that much money because it handicaps what you can spend elsewhere. Five very good players is almost always favorable to one excellent with 4 other retreads, which is why Texas is last in its division. Further, Baltimore killed their rebuilding chances with this contract to Lewis.

come on it's obvious. His thug homiez stormed the owners' offices and held their gats up their heads and forced them to sign it or else they'd bust some caps in their asses.
