Completely different situation. Baseball is a free spending, no salary cap world where it is more common to see those lucrative deals.. the NFL you need to stay within a salary cap, although being creative with the structuring isn't out of the question, you do have a limit. I knew the signing bonus money would keep going up, but 19 million, especially for a MLB, holy jebus. Ray Lewis was not the player I imagined getting that level first... I don't know when Peyton Manning's contract runs out, but before knowing Lewis was gonna get it, I'd have guessed Manning would first.
I knew it would happen, but the shock comes from WHO got it.
In sports, my opinion is that you're worth what someone is willing to pay you. ARod and Lewis probably pay for their own contract in how much revenue they generate for their team.
