I've got a WD2500SK drive that I susupected a virus on, since I was losing access to some folders. Well, It changed in the BIOS from WD2500SK-xxxx and 250GB to WD HAWK and 8GB. The drive geometry changed ( c h s). If I left it unplugged for a bit, it would change back. LEft it unplugged for quite some time and now it seems to be sticking, but still inaccessible. Tried the WD diag in DOS and windows. Get errors from busy error to DAM error in DOS. In windows I get raw read rate error SMART fail. As far as I can tell, this is pretty much a fatal error. I don't care much about losing the data, it's just all my kiddie pr0n (just kidding) and the drive is still under warranty for some time, but if I can avoid the couple of weeks it takes to get replaced, that would be nice.
No, it won't zero fill or format in windows. Yeah, I tried all 4 SATA ports and a new cable. It's not clicking, but it's a very quiet drive and it's hard to tell if it's spinning up at all.
Yeah, I know, but I like to get a second or third or fourth opinion anyway.
