i went to one and it totally stunk. (think BO, bodily fluids, feces, sweat all mixed into one) it seems like the only people who are having fun are the ones doing drugs (which i don't do). if not, you better really love dancing to rave music. which is ok..but gets old after awhile. almost everybody there was totally out of it and some were just sleeping on the ground. i can see how some think it's fun tho. i am not a raver tho!

I'm not sure what this thread is going at. Some people like em some people don't.

Personally, I've been to a few and loved it considering I enjoy dancing and have been listening to trance/house for 2 years before. As for the dirty aspect someone mentioned, that really depends where you go .. some venues are ultra clean w/ free water and everything.

EDIT: As for the cops, they are usually there looking out for dealers and/or unapproved venues NOT drug use.

Most of the cops/security are VERY corrupt. They roll the pushers and take the money and drugs for themselves. The drug scene is VERY avlive at raves. Some fiends who swore never to do drugs and are now f*ucked up more than you can imagine, started at raves. They went 'for the music'

Whatever, don't waste your time.

Use i frequent them alot. Speaking of raves, there is one this saturday.
I enjoy going to them, and seeing all your friends there.
I don't disapprove of them.

About that feces comment, its tottaly depends on where you go. LIke someone said, i have been to ultra clean nice ones, and some whack dity ones. ANd yes tickets got 20-30 bucks. which is a premium to pay, but you gets your moneys worth at the end of the night.

I went to this show last spring in Detroit, the Electronic Music Festival. Pretty cool, this dj (Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman) was spinnning that night and he tore the place up.

If anyone from the midwest is into the scene, I'd definitely recommend checking it out. It's planned for Memorial Day weekend this year if you're interested.

Oh yeah, you can forget about crazy ticket prices because the admission is free!

terror - did you go to airport 2 in october? carl cox was damned amazing! we missed lo fidelity all-stars because some of our friends (whose tickets we had) got stuck in traffic on the way in. the next morning i drove to dallas to see us get our a$$es handed to us, that was suck. how about arctic 3 in the music hall? the only time the music hall isn't incredibly hot inside is when its freezing outside. waiting in line with just a transformers t-shirt on kinda suxored.

 

The music sucks.

Nah.. I think its just the mentality of the person likeing the scene or the music.. If you like it, why cut yourself off because of the impression that your too old for it? BTW ive seeen 50 year olds at raves, and they seem to enjoy themselves the same way that us Youngins do also...

been going for 2 years and i love 'em.
i also enjoy good clubs now that i am 19 i can get into good ones.
oh and btw i party sober (most of the time, sometimes i drink a little if theres a 19+ area).

Well, gee I used to go all the time in Honolulu and I was already pretty old at the time. However, I like the music and dancing. I always got in free (helps to know the DJs).

Some raves were pretty cool and others really sucked bad. I remember some underground outdoor ones at the beach (at Diamondhead). It depended on the crowd, the promotion, the security and the DJs. Drugs were always pretty evident, however.

An auto accident put an end to that scene for me about 5 years ago. No dancing - no more raves. Fortunately I recovered enough to continue surfing after a couple of years . . . (I won't give surfing up!).

I guess it's been about five years since I went to a rave - those days are over for me although I still like the music.

If you haven't been to a rave in Europe, you don't know what a rave is. (ahhh... the memories!)

Anyone ever heard of Ibiza?

Hint: MTV Europe (not the American version!) had its own party in Ibiza, July 1999 - Paul Oakenfold, Orbital, Faithless, Chicane... and had some excellent coverage.

Morons who think raves are about drugs can go shoot themselves (or OD on TV preaching.) As for being &quot;too&quot; old, I guess it's more a question of taste, because I've seen 60-year olds going to such parties, too!

Morons who think rave are about drugs is the main reason there are no more good ones in Florida. I've been to some good ones and some sh!t ones. I know they are not like the ones in Europe. I have a friend who is from England and he brought some tapes of a few of the events he went to from 93 to 95 and they were awesome.
