Raven Shield CD Key? what for?

I just got Raven Shield for my b-day and I went to install it and it never asked for a CDkey. But there is a CDkey on the inside cover. What is it for?

You need the cd key if you want to log onto the UBI servers to play online. It is also used to prevent others from copying your game and attempting to play online.
 
I was wondering about that same thing myself except the game was for No One Lives Forever. But makes sense that it would be for online playing.
 
You can play on a LAN without the CD key needed to be authenticated as long as no other PC is connected to the internet (if the land is connected to the internet, the games are still authenticated.) If any duplicate copies of the game are in use at the same time one will get the CD In Use message. One other thing is if you take the CD out while playing the game shuts down.
