Thanks for the info Gully. I tried following their twitter feed, but each time they handed out keys, they were gone by time I tried them. So, I pre-ordered the game. I figure, even if it stinks, the pre-order isn't that much and I've spent more to get less.

And thanks for letting me kill you earlier today. Twice. That rooftop map is fun.

Got a beta key just by signing up on 2dawns forums last night and got to play some today. First impressions:

The game isnt very pretty to look at even at the highest settings.

Vehicle controls felt sluggish and weird to me.

I did have some fun camping and sniping the enemy in their homebase (dirty play, I know) but it was about the only thing I could do well, so I went with it. I went 43-8 on my second game doing this, the fact that there are no killcams made this even easier. :D

Pretty much agree with all your points. On the one hand, the graphics give it a post-apocalyptic wasteland feel to it. But it also gives it a 16 bit graphic quality vibe too. Hopefully they could pretty it up a bit (without making things like sun glare blind me).

Vehicles are definitely sluggish. There is a delayed reaction to all your inputs and it has nothing to do with your ping to the server. For land based vehicles you can mostly get used to it even though it is still difficult navigating narrow passages (or hitting the ramps just right). But for the helicopters, forget it. I've seen a number of good pilots but I do not know how they are doing it. I've gone on empty servers to practice but can barely hover without crashing. Once I get slightly out of shape, game over, the chopper flips and you die (plus there does not appear to be parachutes so if you go up there are only two ways down and one ends in a big splat on the ground).
They claim flight is like the earlier battlefield games and the desert combat mod. Well, I was able to fly in those titles without problems so I don't know what the deal is here.

I'm on the fence regarding kill cams. generally I do not like them. But in this one there are many times the hit indicator is showing me getting hit from the front or to the side and there does not appear to be anyone in those directions. When the spawn screen shows your killer, it was someone using an up close weapon who you should have noticed (as opposed to the sniper who could be beyond your visual). This could be nothing more than the hit indicator being off perhaps.

However, it is still in beta form and even with these "issues" it sure is fun to play. One of the game modes that is interesting is the one where you have to maintain flags/control points but also steal resources from the enemy.

Hmmm, don't think I've heard of this game. Looks like it could be pretty fun. I'll have to sign up on the 2Dawns forums and see if I can get a beta key.

Bumping this after two months because it is finally available for pre-order from Steam.

Game release was pushed back from August to October.

The Beta has been ongoing. They added a few new maps, and new weapons, and a new vehicle. Squashed a number of bugs, and polished up a few things. They are still working on refining balance and tweaking things.

If you got in the beta and tried it a while ago, it might be worth another look.

What am I doing wrong here? I follow them on twitter and enter my email address as requested. The screen updates and I am told "Your Ravaged beta key for Steam is:" and the rest of the box is blank (i.e. no key is listed). Any ideas?

I'm guessing this is their way of saying that no beta keys are currently available.

First impressions:

The game isnt very pretty to look at even at the highest settings.

Vehicle controls felt sluggish and weird to me.

Agree on both counts. But it doesn't look terrible. It actually reminded me a lot of Rage (although that might just be the desert scenery). But I didn't see anything so bad that it was a distraction.

I don't like the vehicle controls. I agree that they are a bit sluggish. But you get used to that. What I hate is the lack of mouse inversion. I like to invert my mouse control. You can do this for your player and air vehicles, but for some f-ed up reason you can't for vehicles. That makes getting into a vehicle a pretty deadly transition for me. They should be able to easily fix this.

Strangely enough, one thing I really liked about the game is the sound effects, especially when rockets or large caliber weapons hit something. There is a really cool echo effect that I haven't heard in other games. Not a huge deal, but I kinda liked it (especially when you get a ton of stuff shooting around).

Ultimately, I will pick this up if it still has a decent number of active servers by the time it drops to $10.
