I coud be wrong but the major difference is the 711 has 5.1 channels and the 811 has 6.1 channels. Can any verify the STAV-4090 is a Pioneer VXS-D711.

Looks like Wag is right V00DOO.I looked up the specs and with a fast glance, it looks like they are identical. They also appear identical outwardly.
No 6.1 but for $200 it looks like this is quite a budget receiver.

Just check out the instruction manual on RadioShack's site. Pioneer OEMs for alot of manufacturers, although I've never seen one that was exactly the same as their own product.

I'd pick one up myself if I didn't already have an Onkyo TX-DS595. I could really use that Component Video switch.

I like the feature set but Im wondering about the number of connectors available on it:
3 Digital In: (2 optical/1 coaxial)/1 Digital Out (optical)
Inputs - 4 Audio/4 Audio/Video
-CD
-AUX
-CDR/TAPE
-TUNER
-DVD/LD
-TV/SAT
-VCR/DVR
-VIDEO w/S (Front Panel)

Outputs - 1 Audio/1 Audio/Video/1 Video
-CDR/TAPE Audio Output
-VCR/DVR Audio/Video Output
-Monitor Video Output

Component Video Switching (2 Inputs/1 Output)
-TV/SAT Input
-DVD/LD Input
-Monitor Output

S-Video (4 Input/2 Output)
-DVD/LD Input
-TV/SAT Input
-VCR/DVR Input
-Video (Front Panel) Input
-VCR/DVR Output
-Monitor Output

Any thoughts?

I have the 711, and I can vouch for $200 being a wonderful price for this receiver. Compared to other receivers in this price range, it has superb sound quality (the rated THD is 0.2%), and a whole host of other features that you normally wouldn't find.

Basically, as one previous poster mentioned, the only major difference between the 711 and the 811 is the 5.1 vs. 6.1 setup, as well as an additional digital input (if I'm not mistaken). The two receivers even share the same manual.

Pioneer is coming out with a new line of receivers soon, and I've heard that the 712 may have equalization capabilities, but don't quote me on that. Regardless, it's bound to be more expensive than $200.

"Ratshack", LOL! I never heard that term for Radio Slut, but then I rarely venture forth from the seminary after that little incident with the altar boys came to light.

*bump*

I just got it tonight. I haven't hooked it up, but it looks nice. I had to drive 20 miles to a nearby city that had a Radio Shack with it in stock.

The 712 is currently available for pre-buy online for ~$225.

Bump for last chance for a great price on a budget receiver! The newer model mentioned in this thread appears not to be a shipped price.I didnt even see it at that price after looking at many web stores (although im sure its out there somwhere).
Ive decided to spend more money on another brand and model for several minor considerations but for someone wanting a starter HT receiver this would be hard to beat. Its big brother the 811 got much praise on this board in a similar hot deal, and the two models share most things in common.

I wouldn't worry too much if you don't get it this time around. It's been $200 a few times this year.
