Rats vs Snakes

I just became aware of this debate now that I have a pet snake.. many people are against feeding snakes because rats are such great pets (another new thing Ive just become aware of).

Any opinions?

i think the same people who have a problem with it have a problem feeding any animal to another animal, they see it as senseless killing, the animal doesn't have a chance

yeah, but i feed my cat cat food instead of rats.... but for a snake they dont have any healthy/affordable alternative...

Plus rats used to eat our baby chickens and kill some bigger chickens all the time, I dont really feel like they are on equal footing with a real pet.

I hate rats, and I hate snakes. The last thing I want to see is a snake eating a rat. I can't even imagine having a pet snake...what would you do with it? Watch it as it bites your arm? How exactly do you bond with a snake?

its relative, my grandma doesnt eat beef cause she actually had a pet cow.

My wife had a pet pig but has no problem eating pork. My mom, God rest her soul, grew up on a chicken farm and refused to eat chicken her entire life.

hehe, my GF wants a snake again.

we went and looked at them for fun. those things can be costly.

i really loved the snakes they had especially the larger ones, they had an adult (not huge adult) snake, forget the name, but the thing was awesome.

a friend at work breeds ball pythons and said i could have one, so that cut the first year cost in half, so thats cool. After seeing all of the cool patterns he has been breeding it will be hard to stick with one 🙂

Most people like cute furry things better than cold-blooded reptilian things.

blood covered violent rodents with pointy nose and beady eyes and sharp pointy teeth!

Rats can do some damage to a snake. They will take chunks of the snakes skin if the snake doesnt get a good grip. I used to whack the rats on the head with a wrench before giving them to my snake. We also did this at the pet store I worked at in college...on a side note..I never knew a rabbit could squeal
