Rats have learned how to drive tiny cars in exchange for Fruit Loops

They fucked up.

It's a cascading chain reaction. Rodents will use this skill to start learning even more. Soon they will engineer our demise or servitude.

I, for one, welcome our furry overlords.

The Secret of NIMH is real!

Corticosterone is a hormone animals could secrete in high-stakes scenarios like running from a wild animal or defending themselves from predators, but it can also be expressed in lower-risk tasks like doing taxes or worrying about a loved one (though rats likely aren't advanced enough to form a government, let alone impose taxes on fellow rats).

I cite the bolded as evidence of advanced behavior, not more primitive, especially in the state of DC politics today.

This is the cover I remember but it looks like this book has, like, 20 different cover illustrations!

The Mouse and the Motorcycle was so much better than Runaway Ralph yet the kids I grew up with mostly never heard of it.

I guess this what happens when rats aren't provided with cute toy cars and taught how to chill-out...They go full Hannibal Lector. Though their victims are poisonous pests, so I suppose it's more Dexter

Australian water rats have learned how to kill cane toads, eat their hearts and carve out their organs with “surgical precision”.

“They were flipping them over, making a very distinctive, almost surgical precision cut down the chest. They would even remove the gallbladder outside the body, which contains toxic bile salts. They knew to remove that bit.”

“In the medium-sized toads, as well as eating the heart and liver, they would strip off the toxic skin from one or both legs and eat the non-toxic thigh muscle.

“All carcasses had an incision in the chest area, measuring [on average] 10.8mm vertically and 12.2mm horizontally,” it said.

“There was no evidence of bites to the head or body of the partially consumed toads. Rather, the rats appeared to hold the toad on its back and then incise the thoracic cavity to consume organs while the toad was still alive.”

I credit it and Top Gun for getting me into motorcycles. :)

I have like, extremely specific tastes in motorcycles:

1. Honda CBR (red & black, 900+)
2. 2019 Zero DSR
3. Ural (latest-gen model, with the interchangeable wheel)

When (if) I retire, I plan on getting a Ural & a bulldog & hitting the road! Sebastiaan de With's epic road trip was very inspiring to me:

Back in 2011 I made a thread about bringing my 1yr old mini pinscher cross-country with me on the bike. Seemingly everyone on AT flipped at me for even considering it! Dog ended up flying Delta and I ended up doing an unintentional Iron Butt Coast-to-Coast ride to get to the Atlanta Airport in time to pick him up. Still, I'd love to take him on a road trip while he's still young enough for it.
