Anyone else pick up this album? I think it is rather good considering some of the bad press I've been reading about it. What do you think of it? To me, it sounds like a mix between Badmotorfinger and the first Rage album. I like most of the songs I've listened to so far and I'm only half way through.

it sounded like soundgarden to me. Note to Chris Cornell, the early 90's are over and so is grunge. :)

I love Cochese or whatever it's called. I went out and "previewed" some of the stuff, and wasn't impressed. They were a bunch of the leaked demos so they weren't really that good of indicators of what the rest of the album is like.

Is most of the album fairly "loud" like Cochese, or is it a more soft sound. The demos that I heard were pretty mellowed out, and I didn't care for them much.

Most of them are fairly loud. Not as loud as RATM but harder than Soundgarden. It's a hell of a lot louder than Chris Cornell's solo CD. A couple of them start mello, but get harder near the end. I haven't heard any of the leaked demos, so I can't comment about them.

The leaked demos made me want to cry. Seriously Chris Cornell does not have the right voice for Rages sound. The demos were more mellow than the final album but IMHO it's still not up to par of either Rages members or Chris.

Well...I bought it last night. Not sure what I think. The album just kinda feels like some left over riffs and jam sessions from a would-have-been rage album and some half-ass lyrics by cornell thrown in to make a quick buck. The album just feels "forced". Hard to describe. I've only listed all the way through once, and then half again on my way to work this morning.

This one may end up going to cd recyclers.

I'm more interested in hearing Zach De La Roche's (sp?) stuff myself, I think that will be better than this mess.

I think it is OK. This is coming from a pretty heavy Rage fan.

Morello said that they wrote over 20 songs in a month, which is more than RATM wrote for an entire year of ANY albums development. I think they will realease more in the not so distant future. He also said he's been using the same gear, and same three pedals since '91.

The Album isn't too bad, I really like some of the songs.. but some are rather linear, and I just don't like how soft/poppy some of them are.

I really like...
Cochise (the singal is played a lot, though)
What You Are (VERY MUCH)
Show Me How To Live
Getaway Car

The rest aren't bad.. but like any album, I think I'll like certain peices of it more once I listen to it. You have to remember, this isn't supposed to be RATM reincarnated with a new signer.. they have the same players so of course it is going to sound like RAGE, but they want to push it in another direction.

it sounded like soundgarden to me. Note to Chris Cornell, the early 90's are over and so is grunge.

Nah, no...
He's got a good voice.. Zack was a little overwhelming sometimes... i think they have to be appreciated on different levels.

Cornell has a spectacular voice IMHO. He's a good controlled screamer, but can be melodic when he wants to as well. There are parts when his voice goes very well with the music. The second song comes to mind. But they don't stick with it and switch up too often.

I'm not foreign to switch up bands. Down is probably one of my favorite bands out there right now. Take the Phil from pantera, and mix in the guitarist from Corrosion of conformity, and toss in a few members of a death metal band...what do you get? Some great jazzy rock that works really well.

I just listened to it in it's entirety last night and it's great.
It's not carrying a big Rage sound, just Cochise and a few riffs here and there really sound like Rage, the rest sounds very soundgarden "superunknown" era. Which is OK with me!

It's not political like Rage but a tad bit funkier than soundgarden. A good mix if you ask me.

I like how people keep expecting the resurrection of RATM with this band.

AUDIOSLAVE != RATM != SOUNDGARDEN

Completely different bands.

It just *happens* to have the ex-lead singer of Soundgarden and ex-guitarist of Rage. That does NOT mean they are supposed to sound like either.

i freakin love this CD... i just think of it as a new band, not as two great bands put together... this is the kinda music i grew up on.

He's been mixing songs from NiN lead singer Trent Lesner. I guess Zack and Trent are both perfectionast freaks and its taking a log time to mix an album. I guess Zack wants his album to be da "bomb" SO I'm waiting till june of next year.

New Audio Slave sounds great to me. Has the same great bass as RATM and drum beats (as every other RATM song lol) but I think Cornell still has to blend into the band. I guess Zack set the level so high people arent too happy (plus Cornell has short hair now, so I guess it doesnt match) But I just can't wait for the concerts, THEY HAVE TO PLAY RATM songs... even though Cornell has no (emotional) input in them, at least they could play a few in their sets. Another plus Cornell plays great guitar also, I like new rythem riffs, so that its not too bland. Well thats all... New Nirvana is Okay also.. Grunge never dies... look at Pear Jam... err wait maybe it... j/k :p

Not bad tho.

dude, it can't be recycled if he was the one who started it. unlike most of the crap out right now, cornell is the real deal instead of a poser.
