Rate Vista for games

My Vista installation manages to play games that XP won't play without resorting to RunAs tricks, e.g. the Mechwarrior4 series which refuse to run under a Limited account on XP.

I also played through HL2:EP1 with an out-of-the-box Vista install and its default drivers, although my GPU is underpowered for that, regardless of OS. Benchmarking with the Lost Coast timedemo shows results within 3% on XP 32-bit versus Vista x64, although it's GPU-bound in my case 🙁 Anyway, it seemed fine on Vista.

Now where's Mem with his big long list of games 😀

Here 😉 but there's another guy with even a bigger list AdamK47 has these link with screenshoot of his games with Vista x64 and link to thread where he posted. .

That's actually quite impressive. I've been considering putting Vista on a gaming rig i'm building for a friend. I might just go through with it seeing as how the lowest rating in this thread is mediocre. Mediocre isn't bad i guess.

That medicore rating was probably a die-hard XP user that has never used or only used Vista for 5 mins,I have yet to find a 32 bit game I can't play on my Vista x64.

I play the following games in Vista with no problems; performance is practically identical to XP:

F.E.A.R.
Oblivion
BioShock (DX10)
Company of Heroes (DX10)
Half Life 2 and Episode 1
Medieval 2: Total War
The Sims 2

9/10 due to some crashes with CoH dx9 512MB and vista

I have played the following games on vista:

Kotor
Age of Empires 3
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
ZSNES
Bioshock
HL2
Doom3
UT2004
Fear demo
CoH
Overlord Demo

Other than the CoH problem, which i think it might be fixed now, haven't played in a while, they all run great in vista

There might be a slight performance improvement with using XP, but not significant enough to warrant sticking with XP over Vista -- unless you just happen to like XP that much better than Vista 🙂 Vista runs all the games I play just fine.

has anyone had problems playing GTA San Andreas on Vista? It all works (and more importantly sounds) great except the minigames that involve dancing and bouncing the car. Those are lagged as hell and completely unplayable, even with everything turned down/off.

Call of Duty 2 fails to run for more than 5 seconds without hanging in my Vista x64. Resident Evil 4 with the fan mouse patch fails to load. EAX is a disaster thanks to Vista's redesigned sound handling.

Otherwise everything seems to run fine.

No problems here. Everything runs quite nicely for me. All the benefits and improvements of Vista outweigh any miniscule loss in FPS that might exist and at this point, I don't really see any difference between the two in terms of FPS anymore. I get awesome FPS in all my games.

Other then a loss of FPS, Every game I play runs fine, F.E.A.R, Stalker, TD:Unlim, Wow, Swg, Hl2 dm.
