Hi, I recently got a new system, I felt I was getting a pretty high end system, but after reading up, I'm not too sure now.

Anyway, here are my system specs.

CPU - AMD64 3200+ Newcastle
MOBO- Asus K8V SE Dlx
RAM- 1024mb Corsair DDR400 PC3200
GFX CARD - Radeon 9800 PRO
HDD - 120 GB Seagate SATA

Thats about it, the rest of the components are really that important. Anyway I build this rig for gaming, I think its pretty decent? What would you rate this box? high - medium end? medium - low end?

I kinda wish I had gotten a FX 53, or at least something on socket939 just for the sake of upgradability in the future as soon there will be a FX 55 and a 4000+ and those will be on the 939...nothing much coming out on on the 754...oh well, already got this, might make this last awhile before I upgrade, probably a year or so before I get a FX 5x and a 6800

The only thing I would have done different is get a 6800GT video card, but the 9800pro is fine for a lot of games.

i'd have to rate it mid-high end, mostly because of the gfx card. i can only define the 9800 pro a mid-high end card because it doesnt exactly run newer games at top notch.

Really? The CPU setup on a S754 board is ok? Not a 939? Yea, I would have gotten a 6800GT as well but it was an extra 250 dollars I did not have.

Ah, its not so much the GFX card that bugs me, its the processor, I wish I had gotten a FX53 or something S939. But oh well, I guess that will come later..

That processor is more than fine. For gamer, the videocard matters the most and makes the greatest difference. You wouldn't really notice the difference between your processor, FX53, or S939 one. But the difference between something like 9800 Pro and say 6800 Ultra or X800XT PE is like 50-100% and very noticeable in games.

Yup, but it kinda bugs me knowing that I wont be able to upgrade in the future to something more faster as the faster chips are on the socket 939 i.e FX55, 4000+

Well for me the 9800p is doing great for me, timedemo score on doom3 was 41.3, dont really know if that is good but i think it is pretty average on high settings and 1028x748(?)

Thanks for the advice, I will certainly consider upgrading my GFX card first if im doing any upgrading, but i will probably wait for the price of the 6800 or x800 to drop first.

Thanks, I think i will upgrade to a 6800 as soon as the pricing drops, and then maybe upgrade to a S940 in about a years time when the price has gone down...thanks for all your comments appreciate it.
