First off, I'd put Win98 on it. WinME is suck.

Secondly, I'd upgrade the HP 15" monitor. Take out of Promise ATA-100 card and a stick of 256MB of memory and use it as an upgrade towards a 17" monitor if you're on a budget.
The performance leap seen by adding the card and the extra memory aren't going to be that great, especially if you're going to use Win98/ME.

PLEASE stay away from Windows ME. Trust me, this coming from someone who had to use it for months. I saw the Blue Screen of Death more than I saw my Desktop. And it froze alllllllll the time. Trust me.

hek, for the price of a hp monitor you can get yourself a nice 17" or 19" monitor. that last i remember seeing was hp 15" were like 249.99 at best buy, but that was a while back.

I wish I could get a better monitor but I cant beat that 15" for $25 so I do gotta stay with that one

I was thinking about the MX video card but I hear bad things about the MX-200/400's

keep the mobo
up it to 1ghz. The price jump isn't much compared to the performance jump.
256 ram is enough for what you're doing. Remember to buy from crucial.com though.
15 is ok, but you kinda need 17 nowadays.
the harddrive is good
take out the ata-100 pci adapter, it isn't worth it
get a geforce MX or a used radeon.

Remember, you can score some good deals in our for sale/trade forum.

2K is sweet. Little bit more of a memory hog, but your system would be able to handle it.

I would seriously consider a better video card though. It doesn't matter how fast your processor is if there is a huge bottleneck at the video card. If you are worried about the MX, get a Radeon. Or if you can afford it, Geforce Pro's can be found for around $140 or so I think.

did you see the games hes running? im sure sdram will run those games just fine.. you can get a geforce2 gts 32 meg for 60 bucks if you look around... and its definitly enough to run those games on that rig.. i'd also vote to at least get a 17" monitor... you'll thank yerself for it later..

i really dont want to ask what your budget is but i just threw together a computer for my sis. heres what its currently running.

Duron 750
256mb PC-100
13gig Maxtor
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP
Linksys 10/100
Onboard sound
Philips 17" monitor

I put that together for just under $300. the monitor was the killer on this one.

yeah man Monitor is the major problem

I am happy with the 15" because it's easy to take to LAN party's and it looks good & bright plus $25 :D :D

now that thats out of my way I can work on the system

I am dropping the Promise ATA-100 Card
and getting windows 2000
plus looking into MX video card

i picked up a couple of barebones systems from the site below. they have really decent prices on their barebones stuff. i ended up getting the barebones duron 750 setup with mid tower case and onboard everything. the last time i ordered from there shipping was free also. you may want to check it out.
