I'm going to game on this machine, as well as listen to music and burn CDs. No overclocking my processor/memory, just the vid card.

Dude, 17 minutes is pretty hasty for a bump. People may just have more specific threads to reply to.

But it mostly looks pretty good to me. The Cuda isn't the best performing drive anymore, but gets high marks for low noise and high reliability. You may or may not be aware that the Audigy X-Gamer is the same hardware as the less expensive OEM version - it just includes some games. I think I've heard people diss those speakers, but I'm not positive. I've been getting by with my crappy old Altecs so I haven't paid close attention.

The Dragon+ doesn't seem to be as good of a board as some of the others, except for how it's very integrated. Since you're getting an Audigy, you may look into another mobo; the Dragon+ comes with Cmedia 8738 5.1 channel sound.

I read a memory review which showed that Crucial ram is much better than Corsair ram, but I can't find the review atm. The crucial overclocked to 185fsb, and the Corsair could do about 160 or so (I forgot).

I've heard Creative Inspire 4.1 speakers before. I was less impressed than I thought I was going to be; my 2.1 BA setup was almost as good as the Creative Inspire 4.1 set. But I don't know about the Inspire 5.1

Somehow it seems way too expensive.

Also, those are by far not the best speakers... You can get Klipsch 4.1 or 5.1 since you're building a gaming system... Or the Logitech Z-560. Lite-On is a much cheaper CDRW and is not any worse. You can get a Gainward GeForce3-Ti 200 and overclock it well beyond the speeds of geForce3 - yet pay $100 less.

Mmmm.... possibly a little more integration than he needs (RAID and sound), but I take issue with saying it's not a good board. I've had zero problems with my Dragon box. But it's true that an Epox might serve his needs a bit better for a lower price.

I'd go for Crucial RAM, a Ti200 that you can o/c to Ti500 levels, and I'd go for a less expensive mobo. You really don't need the features the Dragon has since you're getting an Audigy, etc. I'd go for the OEM Audigy too, to save some cash, unless you're getting the X-Gamer for the included games. Anyways, with the cash ya save getting an XP333 or an 8KHA+ and an OEM Audigy, you could buy a NIC and have money to spare. I'm guessing RAID isn't a biggie since you only got one HD. I'd scratch Plextor for Lite-On as well...just savin' cash. But either way, nice system. I am jealous. 🙂 If ya go to college or a university you might be able to get an academic edition of WinXP for a very nice price, too.

Enjoy!

Sorry, my intent was not to say anything negative about the board or anything. It's just that the 8KHA+ and KR7A-Raid both seem to be of very high-quality. Both also have 6PCI's. I meant to say that the main point to a Dragon+ is because it has so many extras onboard. If one already has a lan card, a good sound card, etc, the 8KHA+ and KR7A-Raid are better choices, IMHO. The 8KHA+ is much cheaper as well 🙂
