Since I'm trying o make my "CASE" look "COOL", Cases and Cooling is the right forum for it, right?

I'm bouncing this idea in my head for a "RETRO" look.

#1 Paint the top and side panels maybe red or another color then clearcoat it.

#2 Chrome the front bezel.

3# Buy some automotive chrome side molding, probably the skinny ones with colored rubber strip in the middle that matches my painted case or get a contrasting color (we're all decorators here aren't we :) ).

Now the tough part. What do you do with front bezels of your CDRoms and whatever. Well, for the lack of better ideas...

5# try painting them too with tha same color or the contrasting color of your side molding.

6# chrome parts of it or all of it if I can.

7# put really skinny chrome moldings horizontally across the bottom edge of each one.

8# wrap-around molding across the front.

9# all of the above.

Please rate this as "0" meaning "I'm glad it's your case and not mine!" and "10" meaning " Hey! That's gonna be one hot-looking case!".

I like the ideas!

I don't know how easy the chrome painting will be. If it gets mirror like it would totally kick butt. But if it's just sort of a dull wavy silver, then quite the opposite, I think it would look horrible.

I like the automotive paint - get a big can of touch up paint and some clear coat. Go slowly - do it ever 30 minutes or so over the day or it will be thick goo. Eventually buff it down. Candy apple red and such would be great.

I give it an 8 1/2 - not a fan of chrome strips.

Oh, and I did paint my CD ROM on an old machine - do it in lots of light coats, and it worked for me. cover the LED first. None got inside (as far as I could tell)

An 8-1/2. Sounds good enough to me. I agree with the candy apple red and it has to be smooth and shiny chrome.

I also want the impossible. A totally gold plated (fake gold like they use on plastic picture frames) 80mm fan to sit on the outside of the side panel with a bright light behind it. Besides looking sharp, that thing might just cast a spinning beam of light on the wall or on the ceiling if it's on top of the case! But I doubt it unless it's a strobe light.

Galileo, i have painted cars for many years and my experience with the "spray can " chrome paint is that it will gray out especially when clear coated. you may want to test it on something else before spraying to your case .

I don't understand your rating system.

<< Please rate this as "0" meaning "Don't quit your day job" and "10" meaning " yawnnnn....I guess it's okay". >>

So it's either bad or bad?

I say 8 since chrome is nice, but don't forget to add lights inside of your case.

I will give you a 7, am a fan of case mod's just not a fan of bright shiny things. I wanna get some of that paint with colored flecks and make mine look like stone and instead of shiny I am gonna matte finish mine. Thought any about your monitor, printer, joystick, etc? If you have any bright ideas about how to do it all then let us know. Cuz I don't really wanna do it unless I do the whole thing.
