In your opinions, what are the best hard drive makers...in terms of reliability/speed/quality (combined). I need an all around good drive, nothing that will lack.

I upgrade my loud 8 gig 5400rpm drive to a Barricuda IV 7200rpm 40 gig. I noticed faster load times and a now inaudible hard drive. What else could I want?

I may not have the fastest but it's sure fast for what I use it for.

For 15,000 RPM SCSI: Seagate (for high workloads) and Fujitsu (for low workloads)
For 10,000 RPM SCSI: Maxtor, Fujitsu, Seagate, IBM, and Quantum
For 7200 RPM SCSI: IBM
For 7200 RPM IDE: Western Digital (only the special edition models) and IBM (just keep the drive in a well ventilated case)
For 5400 RPM IDE: Maxtor

The Seagate Barracuda IV's are excellent drives. Fast, quiet (dead silent), reliable, and cool running. What more could you ask for? :D

Overall, Maxtor (for IDE). Most reliable drives I've ever owned. But just in case it breaks down, Maxtor also has outstanding service.
