Greetings, all. Long time lurker, first time poster here so don't be too harsh 🙂

So I have a few days off and just got rid of my desktop so will need a new one. Size and look, ie. sleekness is important to me now so I don't want a regular tower anymore. Xmas fund is around 5 Benjamisn so here's what I've decided to go with:

*Shuttle SK83G Barebone: $208 @ NE
*AMD 64 3000+: $122 (PM/AC completed at Staples)
*Sony DRU710A 16x Dual layer: $60AR @PC connection
*Maxtor 160gb 7200rpm : $40AR Staples
*PNY 512mb PC2700 : $0 (recycled from prev.system)
*Video card: Soon to be acquired since I don't play games and in no rush

Total cost for this basic system so far: $430. I planned to swap the Ram for a pair of Mushkin PC3200 once I sell a few odd components I have laying around. Here's some question for this forum's resident gurus:

***The SK83G is the only thing i haven't ordered yet so any recommendation for a sleek SFF barebone that will work with my AMD 64 3000+? Bonus if it's in the same price range****
1. What else can I put in the 3.5" bay besides floppy (haven't used a floppy in a few years)? I already have a Sandisk external usb card reader. I supposed i could Eflea that to offset the cost of an internal card reader?
2. Mushkin or Geil or Corsair for this system? I don't play games and have no interest in OC.
3. Should I Eflea the Maxtor IDE and buy a SATA drive instead? This system will be mainly used for basic usage: web surfing, CD/DVD "backup", photo editing and playing my mp3s.

TIA.

1. Maybe a card reader; I can't think of much else at the moment.
2. I like Corsair and Mushkin; anything's probably fine. (You can probably just keep the stick of PNY in there and add more if you need to--PC2700 will barely affect performance, not enough for you to notice, at least. See the 939 Memory Roundup in the CPU/OC forum for details. If the processor isn't a S939, you won't need two sticks of RAM, either.)
3. IDE vs. SATA provides no performance increase, so right now the only thing going for it is smaller cable size. I wouldn't worry about it, especially since you got that drive so cheap.
