tell me if you think its any good, and where to improve.

improve that volcano.... :disgust: ug... if you are going to o/c or not... get a better hsf

other than that...

you sure 30 gigs will be enough?
ever thought about a DVD drive?
you could always use more RAM?
think about getting some ASII

i agree with getting arctic silver 2, but a dvd drive is totally not necessary. why watch a movie on a 17'' screen when you could watch it on a 30'' screen sitting on a couch? dvd drives are stupid...anyways you need more ram, at least 512, and 30gb is plenty of space as long as its fast...7200rpm at least and ATA100. the volcano is not that great...go to www.plycon.com and look for a better HSF. other than that..its awesome

oh yeah..get the ti500 if you have enough $$$ =)

but for under 1500 that is totally awesome...looking good

Eventually Im gonna add a second HD
Andother 256 stick
And unless you can find a DVD rom for under $30 I cant right now
And about the fan, which one to get??

I pretty much agree with punkrawket. The Volcano 7 I've heard is very loud. For Win XP, 256MB is essential but if u do any kind of multitasking, you will notice a difference between 256 and 512MB. A DVD is not much more than a CD, and well, ASII isn't necessary unless you will be overclocking, otherwise, you'll be fine without it.

Not everyone has a 30" TV and a living room. He might be in a dorm for all we know. DVD on the PC is inexpensive, and a good move IMHO if you can afford the 30 price difference from a CDROM.

<< whats a good HSF to get??????, and i already have some ASII >>

it all depends......

1. Are you planning on overclocking?
2. Could you stand a delta fan?
3. How picky are you about temps?

I plan on Ocing a little, not extremly far. I just want something to keep it cool, and stable. I dont really care about noise, as long as its not nuts

Try the Volcano 6Cu (4550 rpm fan). It's a better cooler, less gimmicky and less expensive.
Check out a refurb 19" or 21" monitor - same bread, lots have a full years warranty.
Look at it this way, what are you looking at all the time?

Get the Vantec 6027. It cools well without excessive noise. Any good copper heatsink will do. Replace the fan with a quieter one if it is too loud.

hmmm .. Color case .. ugly
30GB hard drive??? Kinda small (though i guess its plenty if its managed well)
dunno about that HSF
I'd go with a CDRW or a DVDrom in place of that Plain CDrom

All else Looks Pretty Sweet

Mobo. Soltek SL-75DRV2 Purple Ray Great mainboard, but why not get the Soltek SL-75DRV4 instead? It's only $15 more and is better.
Processor. AMD Athlon XP 1800+ Good choice. Don't forget to unlock it
Video. Gainward Geforce 3 Ti200 128MB DDR Great Choice!
RAM. Crucial 256 DDR system memory Crucial sometimes comes with Infineon chips, which is not great for overclocking. Make sure the module has Micron or Kingmax chips. Corsair always has Micron chips, but they're pricey.
Hard Drive. Western Digital 30GB I'd get an IBM Deskstar 60GXP 40gb.
Floppy. Sony 1.44MB Floppy Yipee kayay!
CDRom. Aopen 56x CDRom Where's the burner?
Modem. Zoom 56k Yipee kayay!
NIC. Linksys 10/100 LAN card Not bad
Monitor. hitachi 17" .24dpi Good choice. Hitachi monitors are nice.
Case. Colorcases "Predetor" Model With 400w power supply Linkage, please? And what brand of PSU is that?
Cooling. Thermaltake Volcano 7 Get a Swiftech MCX462. It's the best HSF out there, and it fits your mainboard
Speakers. Logitech z560 Fine choice!
Windows XP Get Windows 2000, and don't pay for it. (I can give it to you)

Mobo: The Abit KR7A is worth a look also.
Processor: Athlon XP 1700+ chips are like $30 cheaper
Video: It really has 128mb DDR?
RAM: Enough for average user
HDD: Enough if you don't store bloat on your HDD
Floppy: No comment
CD: No comment
Modem: No comment
NIC: No comment
Monitor: No comment
Heatsink: Go get a Taisol 760 or something. I find even Volcano 6cu to be too noisy :Q
Speakers: No comment
WinXP: good choice; more compatible than 2k imho.

i was under the impression crucial and micron are the same company

also nothing wrong with infineon, if mushkin uses them they cant suck but i dont think crucial has or would ever use infineon cuz they are owned by micron and crucial and corsair are both owned by micron

anyways i would upgrade to a dvd or a burner liteon is a good choice

maybe get a 1700+ instead?

the Alpha Pal 8045 would be my choice for a heatsink and an 80mm panaflo
