im curious to know what you guys think about this....nothing unbelievable, but its pretty good :)

p4 1.6a @ 2.4
gigabyte 8IRXP
512mb Mushkin PC2100 high perf 2-3-3 running fine at 300mhz
2x 80gb WD SE in RAID-0 (might take one off, it slows games down some i heard) what do you think?
350w Enlight PSU (12v rail is getting 11.83...good enough?)
Unitech Optimus Radeon8500 128mb DDR 3.3ns Ram, stock 275/300, but works fine at 298/325

EDIT i got mixed up when typing, i said the 36x burner was a lite-on, but it is a cyberdrive. i did check and there is no such thing as a 36x lite-on, my bad.

lite-on 16x dvd
SB Live! (i dont really care what it sounds like...this works fine for me)
Logitech z340's
Logitech USB Optical mouse
Logitech Cordless Keyboard
19'' trinitron and 17'' viewsonic or something to that effect (not with me ATM, but will be shortly)
Antec sx1030 Case with 4 12db Papst case fans (just enough to get some air moving, but totally silent :) )
sweet rounded cables from SVC! w00t!

i guess thats it, cant think of anything else

what do you guys think?

i am going to get an alpha for the CPU, then ill try 155 or maybe even 160 FSB...it clocked 156FSB but was getting too hot for my likes.

i dont see how that is VERY FAR from the best....

processor speed is about the only thing that isnt top of the line....this version of the radeon 8500 is competing very closely to the ti4600. i think it deserves higher than a 7, and when i get better cooling ill post again what i can get the chip to run at.

i spent right around 800.

to the average person thats a top of the line computer he has, something like that would cost you a good 1500+ bucks from a retailer.

I think it would be closer to $2000 from a retailer... They would charge a premium for stuff like raid, the radeon and stuff far beyond what it actually costs. They always do it, that's why we can save so much making mid to high end computers but it's harder to make a really dirt cheap system that's cheaper then the per-made ones.

Turn on your using rating and I will rate your system accordingly.:)

Nice setup you have there, but I still like my dual setup more.:D

I have to agree with bob. I would give it a 7 too.
Scsi hard drive(s) would push this to a 8-9 rating though depending on what drive.

for the money u spent i would give it probably an 8.5/10

You will need to send it to me for a month testing before I can pass judgement.

I give it a 7, it would make 9.9 only with SCSI and faster mem. That being said, my system is almost the same. I have the Logitech 560's and 1GB ram, and the 120 WD SE's

hehe yakko

and if you think it comes down to a 7 because of the sound card and speakers....that is retarded

i dont even know why i put that on there...im talking about performance

maybe all you freaks get out your guitar tuners and test to see which speakers sound better on which cards, but it all sounds exactly the same.

as a matter of fact, i think the logitech z560's sound JUST as nice as that klipsch BS that is SO EXPENSIVE

what would SCSI do for me that IDE raid wont do? i dont move files larger than 100mb, i dont run a server, and i dont do anything related to needed that kind of burst speed.

i play games and write papers.

you are completely wrong saying this isnt an average person forum, because it is.

im not an average person, i know a lot about computers and probably just as much as you. its called who has enough money to buy this kind of stuff. i run computer seminars and do a business, but i have a limited supply of money because im 16. if this system is near top of the line for a NON-server/non HAVE THE HAVE THE BEST stuff, then i dunno what is.

this wouldnt perform any different than dual xp2000+ system in normal cirumstances....ooooh pull out some benchmarks, then do something useful and they wll be the exact same.

thanks to everyone else who could see beyond bob970's lame POV

I give it a 6.5. Higher in the 8 and 9s would have to add SCSI Raid. A perfect ten needs high-end graphics/monitor and SCSI Raid.

I give it a 0 because I don't think there's any such thing as a 36x Lite On burner. Therefore the question is invalidaded.

Why are you insulting bob970? Your first post doesn't mention anything about rating it on performance!
Knowing that, I'd give it a 7. Want to know why?

-dual-cpu
-more/faster ram
-scsi hd (it doesn't have anything to do w/ burst speed or not, scsi drives are plain FASTER performance drives)
-faster video card

those are all performance aspects that you don't have and limit you to a 7-7.5
why did you post this and then get all defensive when people critique it? did you honestly expect everyone to shower you with praise and glory?
gonna attack me for having an opinion now, too?
