Hi guys, could you just give me your ideas/comments on my site....

Paintbypixels.com

I have just finished the overall site feel and layout, and today I will be adding several galleries to build up the site.

-If you want to move around the site are links where you expect them to be?

-What do you think of the design, is it too cluttered or to 'barren?'

-In terms of aesthetics, would you add, change or remove any part of the site?

-How does the site 'flow.' When looking at pictures, changing picture sizes, etc?

coming from someone that couldn't create art to save his life, the photos are pretty good. the site is nice and clean, not too cluttered, easy to digest. plz keep the same look and feel as you add more material, without making a jumbled mess. i did have a problem browsing through the galleries - clicking "large" brought up the pics ok, but i couldn't get rid of it. the website was running business as usual behind the large pic. i'm using opera 9.2. one more thing, i would like fwd and back buttons to browse with.

I think it's difficult to navigate. Under castle island galleries, i click on move and get to a picture, but i click on light and get to another gallery. make up your mind!

Unfortunately, that gallery 'move' contains only one picture, I broke up the castle Island category into 3 distinct galleries, as I have so many pics of the place....and had to divvy them up somehow. It might be better than a single gallery with 100+ photos of castle island....but I could be wrong.

These kind of comments are exactly what I'm looking for. I need this type of feedback to fix small things, or improve on things that aren't working right.

I like the simplicity behind the limited colors on top of white. But you've acheived simplicity without efficiency and that's just not appealing enough.

It won't click with your target audience, I guarantee it. I'm horrible with words when I try to explain things so bare with me. When bringing areas of art onto the web like this you'll need to keep in mind that odds are the people viewing your website are accustomed to seeing very crisp, stylish, and efficient websites. Like a good frame for a photo, the website needs to support your art that you host. A shitty frame disenchants work. A website lacking modern efficiency and flow will do the same.

My suggestions: Start over and instead of chopping up a photoshopped website and overlaying links on top of parts of images, get some basic code in using lists and divs tied into some CSS. Use images only to display images, never text unless its for a non-standard header. Not only will this help the aesthetics of the site, but search engines can't read images, they read text. Set up the text in lists and divs and its like leading E.T. to your room with Reese's Pieces. Try not to lock down tables and divs, let the website flow into the browser a bit more by using percentages for sizes instead of pixel amounts.

If you can't seem to do this, find someone who can. Believe me, you'll be better off. Live in the now, get pro on your website and you'll be much better off.

Thanks for the feedback.

To respond? It?s definitely not a hacked up photoshoped website. All the images in the banners are my own photos, and my own banner. Though I see where you?re going about the banner, and not putting links in them. This would be a good idea to see if this can be reworked.

At this point, I have done good things, and not so good. Good: I like the overall look of the site, even if it could/need some polish to the flow and look. Bad, I don?t have much time left to incorporate other people?s suggestions as I want to launch the site in less than two weeks. I?m not sure at this point I can kill the current design and start all over. I am currently tweaking the site, and making a bit more uniform in look and flow. Also I am a bit locked into my host providers CSS and HTML capabilities. I do not really know programming via CSS or HTML?

Also, you mentioned shitty frames. Could you elaborate on this? What makes them shitty? Is it how they appear, how they flow, etc.

By hacked up photoshop website I meant just images and text put in the right place on a website after its created. I know the work is all yours. Frames was a comparative example, nevermind.

I really liked the site. It seemed pretty neat and not cluttered. The pictures in it are really nice too. I liked the composition of alot of them. If you dont mind me asking: Whats in the "protected gallery?"

Good work!:)

He man, no worries. I wasn't offended at all. Did you mean something like invistext to place for google to find?

Oh, the protected galleries require passwords. I set passwords on them, as I have yet to sort/organize the pictures in that gallery. Until I do this, I'd like to keep the out of sight...till they look 'pretty.....' ;-)
