Price/performance ratio? overall rating? How long can i expect this system to run games on high/medium high settings?

I like it. 8/10.
You can expect about 6 months of high setting play. You can't even expect maxed out settings with all the eye-candy on.

Why do people still buy floppy now adays...

And I recommend 32 bit instead of 64 bit for OS, it would be alot better.

If you plan to overclock, you should of gotten 2x Twinmos Speed Premium PC3200 512mb, and a DFI Lanparty UT nf4 Ultra-D (or the crossfire if you can wait 1 month)

This is a fine gaming machine at a reasonable price. Should be able to handle most games at 1600x1200 or under. If you play BF2 you might want to invest in another gig of ram though. Finally I'd run regular XP Pro instead of x64 as the main OS.

can't u use bootable cds to install sata drivers?

dang you lucky, I can't get that AMD tech tour combo cuz there aren't any near me 🙁

Asus should still oc alright, so definately get a pair of twinmos speed premium from newegg. 106 shipped. They are BH-5 chips. Even if you do get the microsoft xp 64 in the bundle, don't install it, just use your XP home. I also got a recommendation for hard drive. Search Zipzoomfly for Hitachi T7K250, the 160 gig costs 88.50 shipped, it's sata II with ncq, very good deal. also has 3 yr warranty. For the video card, if you can wait, then wait and see ATi's newest line up, if you decide not to get the newest mid range, then at least the x800xl price will drop. If you can't wait, buy the 250 dollar connect3d x800 xl oem from monarch, and buy an artic cooling ati silencer rev 5, that's much better than the asus extreme x800xl. Also, I would suggest getting Thermalright XP-90 OEM from www.jabtech.com, with a Panaflo H1B 92mm fan, and a 3.5 g arctic silver 5.

Looks like a good solid all around rig. I hate it when someone will get an FX-55 and pair it with a 6600GT, or get a 7800GTX and pair it with an Athlon 64 3000+.

then you could just install it, then install sata driver, flash your mobo bios, and then remove the floppy. But if you really want to leave it on then do so, but it makes your case a little hotter cuz less room. I would also suggest getting Antec SONATA II from ewiz.com for 122 shipped. 450 w Smartpower 2.0 with native 24 pin and 32 amps on 12v dual rail is more than enough for your setup.

i would of gone for the 3500. cant say i like the ram selection. i wouldnt get windows 64 bit either not enough driver support for it yet. better make sure you have all the 64 bit drivers that you need ..motherboard....video card.....ethernet etc.

I'm getting an A64 X2 4400 and a 6600GT. However the reason for the X2 primarily is for video editing/compositing/3d stuff. I will play games, but not an absurd amount.

i love it when they ask us to review their rig AFTER they order.

Really? hmm, it seems that people who do this get more replies then when I ask for opinions and help on components that im thinking of getting. You have to love that....

Yeah i know, ive gotten so many more responses more than i did in the ones before i bought my pc... Then i get yelled at for asking people to rate it after i have bought it... What are we supposed to do?
