Plan : Sell Current PC and cover the difference to build a new gaming PC.

Current PC
AMD 64 3200+
eVGA KO 7600gt
G.Skill Extreme DDR500 2gb (2 x 1gb)
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
Antec 500W SmartPower
Cooler Master Centurion5
Seagate 7200rpm SATA 80gb
BenQ 19" LCD

I'm thinking i will be able to sell this computer to someone for $500 without the monitor, and $700 with. This is basically a brand new computer. It is 3 months old, and the video card is brand new.

Next Build Plan
AM2 X2 3800+
x1950xt
G.Skill DDR2 533 2gb (2 x 1gb)
Asus M2N-E
Raidmax RX-630W or FSP FX600W
Cooler Master Centurion5(windowed) or Thermaltake Tsunami
Western Digital 7200rpm SATA 160gb
Viewsonic 19" 8MS Widescreen or BenQ 19" LCD

With this setup, i won't have to cover much. I will only have to cover $100 of the x1950xt assuming its $399. I tried to keep this build very cost effective. That is why i went with AM2 over Core2. I don't plan on overclocking either, so another reason why i just went with a cheap AM2 rather then the E6300.

As you can see i haven't made my mind up on some parts. Such as the PSU, Case, and Monitor. For the PSU i like to have modular cables and that is why i am looking at the Raidmax. But i know the FSP rolls over the raidmax in terms of performance but it isn't modular.

As for the case, i want something that will look awsome (which i think the thermaltake does). I just don't think the price gap for aesthetics is worth it.

And last, the monitor. This is assuming i sell the PC will the monitor (assuming i get the PC itself sold haha). I don't know if i want widescreen or not. I am extremely happy with my BenQ 19" right now so more then likely i would just stick with that. Then again, widescreen could take my gaming experience to a whole new level.

I am open to any suggestions.

i had a 7900gt with this PC but had to RMA it because it was defective

as i like to look at things as an investment, i could order a 7600gt for $160 and put it into this computer.

Basically, if i sell this PC, i will upgrade to whatt i want for nearly free.

i see no reason to keep my current PC for that exact reason.

I have a 3200+ machine, and I see no reason to upgrade except for a newer video card to replace my x800xl. Your current system is perfectly fine in my book, just spend $350 on a new video card and call it done.

I suggest you go for the E6400 or E6600, as your upgrade isn't that big from current to the one you said.

Well I guess it all depends on what he wants to do with it and how soon he wants to build his new PC. If he can wait the prices of the Core 2 Duos will be a lot cheaper when the Kentfield processor is released later this year. If it is right now, I agree that it is not a huge upgrade. Also I think that you will have a hard time getting that price for your current PC. Also you should be able to keep your power supply. It is more than sufficient to run this new system. I say that because the mobo your looking at has a nvidia chipset in it, not an ati chipset to fun dual ati cards. So that is out of the question. If you want to run SLI or Crossfire later, I suggest you pick a chipset and decide on what brand video card you want for sure.
