Single Hard Drive (320GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD)

MOTHERBOARD: (Quad-Core FSB1333) Asus P5N-E nForce 650i SLI Chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2 Mainboard

Plus the other usual stuff, network card, usb ports, fairly standard but nice looking case.

So, without telling you just how much I spent, what would be a good price (best estimate) and what do you think of this setup? Thanks in advance.

I think you could have done a lot better with the motherboard, should have gotten a P35 board.

You are gonna hate the Creative Audigy with Vista, they will not play well together.

The rest looks great, you should have lots of fun. 8/10:)

rate it?

I'd say maybe 5/10 being generous.

Only things i'd agree with the purchase of is Vista Home Premium 64-bit (good choice over the 32-bit) & the CPU.

Then again, what my needs are & what yours are...who knows, so my rating is subjective ;)

Well... he did say "gaming rig" in the thread title.
So apparently his needs would involve running PC games.

7/10.

-1 pt. for using Vista 64-bit vs 32-bit (or XP for that matter).
-1 pt. for non-P35 mobo.
-1 pt. for omitting crucial gaming components - gaming peripherals / speaker configuration / monitor type / native resolution (if fixed display)

A lot of stuff I already own, 22 inch widescreen LCD, Klipisch (SP?) speakers, brand new mouse and keyboard, etc. Also, I am gong to have an XP partition on the HD.

No point having the Audigy at all. Creative drivers and Vista 64 just don't get on.

No real point going for water cooling unless you have quite a big budget and intend to do it properly. There are some really good air coolers that do a really good job and are also quiet.

Like others have said, you should have gotten a P35 motherboard. They handle quad core CPUs much better if you wanted to upgrade your CPU down the line.
