I am wondering if that is the BH-5 based ram ocz ram? My original budget was $1500 so I'm in pretty good shape. Was thinking about waiting for the ATI Xpress board but I don't picture myself dumping another 500 on a video card in a long time. What you guys think?

wow that was quick. At monarch computers, here. I saw it this morning and had to order it. Was going for the x800xl but after I saw this had to jump on it.

8/10
1. You can get cas2 g.skill ram(finally in stock again!) at newegg for $99. search in ram g.skill 512mbx2 dual channel kit. It is of good quality and should hit 218mhz or so fsb at cas2 when you oc(though you shouldnt really oc ram. benefits are negligible)
2.get a bigger hd. i bought a 160gig and i seriously now have buyers remorse for not getting something bigger. i have ~3gigs free. The raptor isnt all that fast, yuo could raid0 2 much bigger drives for similar performance at lower noise and same price.

oops, forgot to add the 2x WD ATA 250gigs I already have. Yeah I was thinking about raiding 2 SATA II drives together, might just do that.

7.5/10

1. On the CPU, I don't think investing in a middle/high-end single-core makes sense at the moment. The dual-core parts should drop into the affordable range in about 6 months or so and offer much better performance than their single-core counterparts. For the time being, I'd say go with the 3000+ Venice retail package ($146.00 on newegg) and overclock the hell out of it until dual-core is affordable, then just pop in a dual-core chip based on San Diego. -1.5 points.

2. If you're getting the DFI board, you might as well also get some RAM that's rated to operate at high speeds and the 3+ volts that the board supports (OCZ "VX" series, for example). -0.5 points.

3. I wouldn't bother with the third-party cooling just yet. There's nothing wrong with the HSF that comes with the 3000+ (or 3700+ for that matter) retail package, especially if you remove the thermal pad and replace it with some Arctic Silver...you should still be able to hit the 2.5 to 2.7 GHz with that chip on stock cooling w/ Arctic Silver. -0.5 points.

4. I personally would have gone with an nVidia card, but that's a matter of personal choice. -0.0 points.

dude thats an awesome system and some fine pricing with that powerstream and 850xtpe and raptor on sale, holy chit, well timed.

the 3700+s are great man. alot of 2800's on air, they run some hot but that xp-90 should do the trick. i'm contemplating getting it to replace my 7000cu.

great job how do you not say 9.5/10 (i'd get the ocz rev2 😛 )

hmm wondering if I should cancel the x850xt and wait a bit to see if it drops more? I have until end of August which should be enough time for the r520 cores to come out.

well, we'll hear something on the r520 on july 26 but i think cards before october is optimistic. just imo
