How much would you charge a friendly neighbor to fix their PC issues?

If it was just a quick job I'd do it free, but they seem to be having a number of issues at home and at their office.....they asked for a rate.

Don't want to offend them by asking too much or myself by asking too little.

What do you think?

I think should tell them no and step away from the black abyss that is "friendly neighborhood PC repair."

i charge $50 an hour for anything that i have to make special trips for, and for non-immediate family phone support. plus parts of course. that might seem lame but otherwise i'd be hounded to death.

depends on where you live. I charge no less than 50 an hour plus 30 for travel but rarely do it for the home user anyway. for businesses I do it for 100 an hour.

i would ask around 40 because more than likely you will still be getting phone calls like, "so what should i do about this" or "how do i fix this" etc.

You can probably tell that rates vary widely. Just decide what you're time is worth to you. If they don't want to pay it, they can always find someone else.

Good fences make good neighbors. Setup your rules and fees early so you don't get taken advantage of. I charge between $30 and $99 depending on the client. If they are rich $99 is nothing. If you're a church and want help I charge $40. Good luck!
