Rat Terrior dogs

Conky

Lifer
Do you have any knowledge of this breed and what to look for? I am looking at getting one on saturday and have never owned one.

Any tips or input on this would be appreciated. Thanks. 🙂

Terriers are VERY HIGH ENERGY dogs. Be prepared. If it is a puppy, I would find someone with a small-dog-friendly larger dog and arrange play dates several times a week. Good Luck! You could not pay me to get a terrier, but that is just me. I prefer low energy dogs like borzoi and other hounds. As for what to look for...I dunno are you asking about breed type or what? If so go here. 'Rat' terrier usually refers to a Parson Russel Terrier or a Fox Terrier or something inbetween. Though just reading the breed standards is kinda tough with out examples in front of you. Could go to a dog show but prolly not before saturday...

Thanks for the detailed reply!

We have a ~2yr-old neutered female larger mutt who had one litter who will be her housemate. We are hoping it will keep her occupied and give her an active friend who will help her stop being so lazy, lol. I'm sure the two will get along famously. We've had a Boston Terrier before too and she was quite happy with us.... we have a big yard and love to go for walks.

I will check that link you posted right away!

Excellent plan! Older fixed dogs have a tendancy to be lazy and become over weight very easily. So older doggie gets exercise and young pup has someone to play with. 🙂

Good Luck!
