I am setting up a RAS server for my company and we currently have a 4 line connection. Does anyone know how I can get this to automatically roll over to another modem when one is in use... What I am trying to say is there software or can windows 2000 do this. Eventhough our business is rather small, we still need a way for our sales reps to connect while on the road. Can anyone help me out with setting this up or know of a web site that can help me as well as the software I can use

Do you have a 4-port modem? If so, the modem should roll over to another modem for use. But, if the line your users are calling on only supports 1 call at a time, then there is no way. But, if your clients are running Windows 2000 (I am not sure if 98 supports this), you can enter multiple phone numbers into the DUN connection.

Let me know if this works.

I think we are gonna buy a 4 port modem to use, but how would I go about setting it up? And also....I we use just a 4 port modem now.... how easy is it to upgrade to an 8 port or can you daisy chain 2 4our ports together?
Also, should I get an internal modem or external?

The type of modem really depends on if you have an available PCI slot or not. If you have the room, then I would get an internal modem. It should not be very hard to upgrade to a higher port density modem. The only thing you need to make sure is what type of phone line are you going to get. Are you gong to get a line that can support multiple dial-ins, or are you going to get a total of 4 lines and if you need additional line you will order them? You will have to call your local CLEC (local phone company) for this type of information. They should be able to help you out.

If you have 4 seperate lines and modems you can have the phone company add a service or option to roll it over, I cant remember the technical name, but it's basically a call busy, call forward type option, I had this option a few years ago when I ran a multi line BBS and needed node 1 to roll over to node 2 if it was busy. This way I only had to give out one number.

Hope this helps
