I made this post on another message board. This is probably more information you want to know about Mark Knopfler, my favorite musician and Dire Straits, my favorite band. But here you go:
Hello. I was wondering if we could try to provide a list of rare songs that Mark Knopfler sang on or wrote, either solo or with a band (Dire Straits, Notting Hillbillies, etc.). By rare songs, I mean songs that do not appear on any of MK's studio albums, soundtracks, or main live albums (Alchemy and On the Night) that are in CD format.
I would like to categorize these rare songs as:
1) Songs that were recorded during some recording session for an album and did not make the album, but did make a B-side or Maxi. These songs have been released, albeit not widely, by MK or his band.
2) Songs that have only been performed live and never released. Demos might exist, though.
3) Songs that are only on a compilation album, either live or recorded.
I would like to add to this list as Mark Knopfler's discography increases. I guess I would like to start introducing fans to rare songs, because I happen to like all of Mark Knopfler's work. I'm tired of snooping around fan sites and clicking on singles over and over again. I want these songs to be in one list.
Here's what I have so far:
1)
Eastbound Train - Appears as the B-side of the Sultans of Swing single.
Badges, Posters, Stickers, T-shirts - Appears on the B-side of Private Investigations single and You and Your Friend single. Also appears on the Extended Dance Play EP.
If I Had You - Appears on the Extended Dance Play EP. (Note that Extended Dance Play also contained Twisting by the Pool, which appears on Greatest Hits of Dire Straits and the studio version of Two Young Lovers, which appears live in Alchemy. Does anybody know what recording session these were recorded in?)
Millionaire Blues - Recorded during the On Every Street sessions, and appears on the B-side of Calling Elvis single.
Kingdome Come - Recorded during On Every Street sessions, and appears on the B-side of Heavy Fuel single.
