Since we already have the first Raptor Lake leak I'm thinking it should have it's own thread.
What do we know so far?
From Anandtech's Intel Process Roadmap articles from July:

Built on Intel 7 with upgraded FinFET
10-15% PPW (performance-per-watt)
Last non-tiled consumer CPU as Meteor Lake will be tiled

I'm guessing this will be a minor update to ADL with just a few microarchitecture changes to the cores. The larger change will be the new process refinement allowing 8+16 at the top of the stack.

Will it work with current z690 motherboards? If yes then that could be a major selling point for people to move to ADL rather than wait.

Just a word of caution, watch out so the hype train dont hit you in the rear when trying to hit these frequencies in anything but very spesial cases under perfect conditions :p

The best binned Alder Lake dies in the world can barely hit ~6.2hz on 1 core with HT disable in a "idle workload"..
(without extreme cooling)

Vermeer had about a year of sales on the open market before Alder Lake hit the streets. Nov 2020 -> Nov 2021. It was an aging CPU by Nov 2021 that easily could have seen its sales drop off after Intel had a chance to release something to counter it; regretably, they couldn't reprise the 9900k and so the 5950X enjoyed another ~10 months of relatively solid sales performance. In fact, all the Vermeer SKUs have remained fairly popular. Quite an embarrassment for Intel.

That is still too mildly written, or you cant fight vs five years old AM4 socket.

DIY CPU sales numbers, German Mindfactory as usual considering that they are the only ones offering precise sales figures.

Red, iz year 2022 it is extremely absurd that only Mindfactory has such "crazy business practice". :grinning:

There is a reason Intel doesn't claim 5.8 Ghz Max Boost you know right? If they did they would be in alot of trouble when reviewers get their hands on them...As AMD Did with the rated boost claims on the 3950X.

So lets get this out of the way.

7950X Max Rated boost 5.7 Ghz
13900KS Max Rated Boost 5.6 Ghz
13900K Max Rated Boost 5.4 Ghz.

People with very good cooling will enjoy faster speeds of course.

They can claim that, as long as they provide their own certified cooling solution with the CPU.

Intel shouldn't play these tricks anymore. I couldn't remember how many times I saw the 5.8Ghz even 6Ghz examples 'leak' around though internet.......even before the announcement. Now they 'accidentally' tear down the camouflege by themselves. I think Intel PR was drunk this time.

Anything outside of that will show you nothing about the efficiency of either chip.

EDIT: and in either scenario, you will want to test multithreaded applications, and total power consumption in each. That is why simply running the 12900k and 5950x at similar power limits (142W and below) will tell you far more about the efficiency of both chips.

All of this is meaningless, of course, because Rocket Lake was the competitor to Zen 3, not Alder Lake. Alder Lake launched well after Zen 3. Technically Zen 4 is the competitor to Alder Lake, however...oh boy.

Yeap, the test was done against a 5950x with 8 cores off. If you just power limit with no manual tuning zen 3 stands no chance man, the difference will be 30+%

Intel said yesterday that Raptorlake delivers 15% improvement in single threaded performance and 41% in multi-thread.

The previously announced "Keem Bay" VPU by the acquired Movidius corporation is going to be the one that'll be used with the 13th Gen Core systems in an M.2 module. In a demonstration, it reduced GPU utilization from 20% to 5% with the VPU active in an image recognition application. Meteorlake will go further and have an integrated VPU.

Do we know what they used in the ST comparison, which SKUs and in what benchmark? I tried looking for the info but found nothing. Is it 6Ghz on unreleased Raptor Lake part vs 12900K?

Dunno, don't think his numbers are legit. I just run it at stock 5.2ghz and I scored 283. It's hard to accurately measure CBR15 cause it keeps bouncing threads around, cpuz doesn't have that problem
