Raptor 74gb Power Inputs

I am having some stability problems (keep getting machine state exceptions) and I think it is related to power issues. I have a great power supply, so I know it is not the problem.

I have two Raptor 74b in a raid0 array.

It has been suggested to me that I plug into both the SATA and molex power inputs.

Would that mess up my Raptors?

Thanks!

There is no need. Just make sure that the rail they are on is not saturated. Normally the raptors (I have 4) are very stable reliable drives. More likely is it could be a motherboard or driver issue, possibly unrelated to the Raptors themselves.

I believe WD specifically wants you not to do that.

You might try switching from whichever connector you're currently using to the other one. But not both at once.

Well, I have 4 SATA drives, 2 IDE HDDs on the Asus A8N, and another 8 IDE drives on a PCI Rocket Raid card.

So, I need a beefy PSU! 😉

So I am assuming you have a few "Y" connectors, right? I had a simular problem a few years ago, turned out to be a POS Y connector, replaced it and the problem went away.

Any advice on how to see if a POS Y connector is bad?

Use the ohm meter function on your DMM. Oh!! you don't have a $10 DMM but you
do have a $500+PSU...Makes perfect sesce 😛
