I think it's really time to move out of this area. I considered it when Tyson moved in, but this is going from bad to worse.
There goes the neighborhood (again).
The rap superstar 50 Cent has purchased the Farmington mansion that once belonged to heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson for a lot more than loose change.
Curtis James Jackson III, aka 50 Cent, bought the lavish home for $4.1 million, said Farmington attorney Joel Mandell, who handled the transaction, which was completed last week.
The mansion, located off Poplar Bars Road near the Farmington Reservoir, is about 52,000 square feet on more than 17 acres, with a separate guest house.
It boasts skylights, 12-foot ceilings, five Jacuzzis, several laundry rooms, 25 full baths and 14 half baths, multiple kitchens, 18 bedrooms, an elevator, a four-story atrium, a security system, two billiard rooms, a movie theater, a locker room with shower and whirlpool.
The home was completed in 1987 by former Colonial Realty executive Benjamin Sisti, who is currently in Federal prison.
It was acquired by People's Bank in a foreclosure auction in 1992 for $3.5 million, was sold to a Lithuanian businessman for $2.7 million in 1993. It was sold to Tyson in 1996 for the same amount.
In 1997, Tyson put the house on the market for $22 million, and two years later reduced his asking price to $12.9 million.
Jackson bought the property from Tyson's ex-wife, Monica Turner Tyson, who acquired the mansion for $1 in 2002 as part of a divorce settlement.
Jackson's music draws on his past as a drug dealer in the New York City borough of Queens, where he grew up. He has been shot nine times and stabbed.
His plans for the mansion are unknown.
