computer repair and such

We gave her a demo task to see what she knew. In this case the mobo was dead, which she didn't know, and all she had to do was diagnose it...

I can't tell you how many times she told me that the power source wasn't working because the drives weren't coupled together....:(

Did you send her home with a copy of the video to see if it would play on her computer? ;)

I feel sorry for you. :(

On a barely related rant: I hate having to explain why I need some particular technical thing to people who haven't a clue about whatever it is I must be doing. Maybe some other day I'll post my "sound system installation in a house of worship rant."

That's rather impressive.

I've got a mobo that acts dead, but works fine outside of a case. It's ticking me off :( I'd try a different case, but I'm too much of a cheap arse.

wtf? she wanted to rewire the power supply? if she knows ANYTHING about what they teach in A+, she should know that it's STRONGLY DISCOURAGED to open and work on power supplies (and monitors) because an electric shock from them could be lethal.

umm...no no....that is not what she was doing

I had told her to test the mobo, making sure it wasn't the case button, by usign a jumper on the power on pins of the board....somehow she came back with a manual on hwo to take the power supply apart:confused:

That's pretty amazing. How did she get past HR's screening of the resumes?

Hell, I can't even land INTERVIEWS, and I've been working in IT for 8 years and know even SQL backwards and forwards!

BobDaMenkey,

If the motherboard works outside the case then I would subspect that that when you install the motherboard that part of it touching the case and is shorting it out.

Doesn't seem like a very efficient method of hiring... not only are you not paying heed to their qualifications, but spent over an hour monitoring them on one task?

Nah. I was doing my work. I just checked in with her every once in a while.

What really dissapointed me was that she didn't lsiten when I tried to help her.

I must admit I am arrogant at times and such, but I was not being condecending, and that made her weakness in askign for help that much mroe visible.

Probably a diesel so gaskets won't work!
