Just ranting. At work we have a test box on our team (made of leftovers) that we're moving from a 2U to a 4U server, and one of the things we wanted to transplant was our Infiniband cards. These Infiniband cards link a storage array to the VMWare box. The problem is the cards we got a long time ago are short brackets and our 4U server needs tall brackets.

I'm not sure what to do to find these brackets. I'm willing to pay a little bit, but I don't have all that much spare cash :( I tried finding broken cards on eBay and they're either single port (ours are dual port), or they're still like $200 for a single broken card (we need 2 brackets).

I tried Mellanox Support and they promptly responded that they dont do anything is support for cards without support contracts, but that they'd move it to their general support and see if someone could help me there. I waited about a month with occasional check-up emails but never heard back from them.

I know companies like Keystone make customer brackets but they probably only deal in bulk :(

Dual CX4 Tall bracket, 2 of them.. I would have never imagined this would have been such an issue. I'd just ignore it but the cables are too heavy and without it being screwed down the cables can pull the card right out of its slot.

Anyone around here have some old Infiniband brackets they aren't using? :p (Tall of course)

For reference, the ports that are giving me frustration.

The obvious question is why don't you get one from a machine shop? bring in a bracket (I assume you have cards with them) and get them to duplicate it.

That would involve getting out the comfy chair, walking out of the office, and potentially exposing oneself to sunlight. Any and all possible alternatives should be thoroughly vetted before taking such drastic actions.
