[rant] Why is FedEx's package tracking system so slow??

UPS package tracking usually updates about every ten minutes (i.e., I'll have a package delivered and it will show up as delivered about 10 minutes later). FedEx seems about 12 hours behind! The latest status report for my Ground package shows that it's in Detroit, but I just called them and the CSR told me it's out for delivery! Ugh!

Everyone raves about how great FedEx is...why isn't their tracking system NEARLY as good as UPS?

I've noticed this myself...but then again, I'm old enough to remember life BEFORE FEDEX...you ordered something and it got there....eventually....sometimes....in one piece.....be thankful.

On Monday they ship something from Japan. On Wednesday they deliver it to your house in rural Iowa or wherever. Amazing, no?

Because they spend more time on handling the packages carefully than on tracking packages. hehe

No...no they don't actually. My tracking status JUST updated, and at 11:39 am this MORNING, my package was delivered to the WRONG ADDRESS :|

Delivered to address other than recipient/DETROIT - HD MI 11/01/2002 11:39
That is NOT good news. Someone else has my Oakleys!

Thanks...to make matters worse I live in a college dorm...I'm betting I won't be seeing those glasses soon.

I'm happy with fedex...except for the fact that the local FedEx place doesn't take cash! I drove way out there (with cash)...ended up driving back to the post office and paying 5 bucks more...bleh.

Most of my newegg orders get here in about 2 days..with cheap/free shipping. :D

So were they nice people; seeing as how you rode the bus with them and all ;)

Fedex tracking system is still aloooooooot better than USPS. USPS system doesn't even update until the item is delievered. Which makes the whole tracking system obsolete and useless.

I believe it depends which FedEx service you're using. If FedEx Ground, that updates are only in the evening, however with FedEx Express, I can see within a few minutes (they actually send me an email) that the package has been delivered.

USPS' database only refreshes once a day I believe, which makes it totally useless for real-time tracking.
