*RANT* Why don't printers come w/cables?

New $200 HP printer for xmas.

cleared everything to make room. unhooked/moved my old printer out of the way. about to hook new printer to pc when i couldnt find the usb cable. i then read the instructions, and it saids the usb cable is not included.

WTF?!

my old printer uses a parallel cable. the new printer is usb only.

ARRG! sun nite and stores are closed.

i was all set to get this puppy going. now gotta wait till tommorow.

And $10 for a USB cable from the major stores?! geez

You have to be careful where you get these USB cables. Sam's Club has them for a few dollars.

I bought mine at the 99 cent only store for (drum roll) 99 cents.

Dude, USB cables can go for about $1.

Ever look at most retail stores? You'll be hard up to find a USB cable for under $20. Parallel cables are marked at roughly the same.

Biggest sham in the industry. The cable market is such a freaking racket. I pity the foo that doesn't know any better and spends the jack on cables that are marked up 500%.

I got a USB 2.0 cable for only $15 at Best Buy. It's better than the other USB 2.0 cables because it's gold plated. It's twice as fast!

<--checks sarcasm meter--it's blinking!!

lol $10 is nothing.
My dumb sister spent $39.99 on the Belkin GOLD series USB2.0 transferring at a full 480mbps at Best Buy.

We were encouraged to sell the gold USB 2.0 cables over the regular ones (about 39.99 vs 29.99 for a regular one) at Staples because the profit margin on those cables was one of the highest throughout the store.

is there a place in nyc that sells usb cables for $1?!

Unlikely. Very few retail places charge fair prices for cables. Cables and ink cartridges are the profit makers so that they can afford to sell the printers themselves for no markup. You can easily find USB cables for under $2 online, you're never going to see them at that price in a B&M.
