My cube has been moved to what I call "100 Front Street"... It's right on a main walkway through the building. Normally pretty cool, get to watch the females walk by and such...

But because of my location, the office candy bowls and such always end up on the filing cabinet right in front of my desk. Since Halloween is coming, someone put the office "hand" bowl up with candy. It has a hand that closes on your hand if you reach in for some candy and says, "Trick or Treat" or some other inane crap.

I turn it off when I get in at 5am because I don't wanna hear it that early in the frigging morning. But there's a couple of people that walk by and intentionally activate it just to hear it. One lady even replies every time, "Smell my feet" to the "Trick or Treat". :| She just walked by and got pissed that someone turned it off, turned it on, and proceeded to spend 5 minutes playing with it. Arrrggghhhhhh!!!!!

EDIT: These are the same people who had to constantly mess with the "Tickle Me Elmo" that amazingly keeps disappearing...

What you need is a nailgun. When someone sticks their hand in there and says 'trick or treat' just nail their hand to the fvcking file cabinet and be like 'TRICK BEEYOTCH' then go back to work.

You need to get the job done and steal the batteries, because no one can ever find replacement batteries when they need them.

That, or take it apart, melt solder all over the place and such so that when someone activates it, it makes a small fire and you get a free 1 hour break. Then no one has the balls to buy a new bowl, either.

It's carried over from childhood. These were the kids that were spoiled with every noisemaking device ever made. When I was a kid, I NEVER had a toy that made it's own noise. Until I got my own computer in 5th grade - and that only had a cruddy internal speaker that didn't make much noise. Now I've got my dad's old Hi-Fi. That makes a LOT of noise (Heh, and has crappy SnR, I hafta clean off the contacts and get some high gauge wire to replace the CAT5 that I'm using for the speaker leads).

Point: The fewer noisemaking pieces of junk you have as a child, the more mature you become with audio later in life. The more of them you have, the more you depend on them for amusement later in life.

i have that bowl. People who come by and try to make to the hand move act so disappointed because I had turned on for only one day (even then it got tiring when someone walking by would set it off.)

Tomorrow, tape the fingers together. Except the middle one, of course. ;)

I would just bust it open and disconnect the speakers. They will still be amused by the moving hand, but no annoying noises.

Hmmm.... I like that idea. Too bad today was my last 5am day, so people will be here when I come in now. :( Maybe a Saturday visit... :D

C'mon... this is a tech forum... You should be asking:
How can I get the stupid hand thing to shout out obscenities when people activate it, get the person who brought it in fired, and set an example for anyone who wants to bring obnoxious things like that into the office.

Personally, I'm the person who unplugs ANY noisy x-mas item in chain stores if I can hear it where I'm shopping before Dec 10th. Those elves ringing bells on the x-mas tree set up in the middle of October? Unplugged.
