In AIM, you can set port for file transfer.

Open preferences, and go to file transfer. There is a box to set port number.

Care to be more detailed on how one does that?

Log into your router, ususally 192.168.0.1 and enter the username and p/w. There should be some advanced settings in there where you can control ports.

I'll risk of the spam accusation.

Users on BitWise Chat seem to have better luck with file transfers, even with routers, than the bug guys... worth a shot, anyway.
