Rant: Why are you selling this computer?

I've sold 15 mac's in the last 2 years and have sold about 10 PC's during the same period.

With every single mac, at least one potential buyer has asked, "Why are you selling the computer?" This has not happened with any PC's that I have sold.

Really, why does it matter? How will it affect your decision to buy this or not? I mean, I give people honest descriptions, guarantee everything that I sell, have impeccable ebay and heatware feedback. Yet, people still insist on asking.

I guess that the ultimate answer is, "I am selling this computer so that you will give me your money."

Maybe I should start asking anyone who expresses interest, "Why are you interested in buying this computer?"

Q: "why are you selling this computer"

A: Because it is a piece of shit and I think the PSU is failing and the hard drive started making funny noises. Also, I overclocked the living fuck out of this thing.

People who buy Macs are fanboys who can't believe that anyone would ever sell their Mac.

I was thinking the same thing. Don't get me wrong, I like Macs, but I think the fanboys are way over the top.

OP, I like you're ultimate answer

Why have you sold 15 macs in 2 years?

I assumed at first you were building and selling, but then you wouldn't be asked "Why are you selling this?" if you were in a business structure.

Lol me too. I snickered, actually, which is different from laughing... oh well.

That question is just part of the buying process. I ask that question for everything I buy, it's a most people just state they are selling it because they don't have a use for it or they need money.

That's pretty much why they're asking... they want to get an idea if something is wrong with it. People ask the same thing when buying a car. Of course, if there really was a problem with it you probably wouldn't answer them honestly, but they're hoping to get some indication that you're lying.

So the answer is: Mac purchasers are smarter shoppers than PC purchasers.

-OR-

Q: "Why are you selling this computer?"

A: "Because the damn federal government wormed their way into this one too, and only by selling it can I ensure they're not watching me!!" Wearing an aluminum foil hat, and glancing about, furtively, will reinforce the spoken statment, of course!!
