Ok, so I've learned a couple of things about ATOT members, although not shocking. Apparently most are fucking disgusting and think wearing deodorant & antiperspirant are one of those optional things you do in life. They also think a gym should smell like a fucking sewer.

So let me clear up a few things:

1. Wearing deodorant and antiperspirant EVERY DAY should not be optional. If you are out mingling in public, wear it. Quit being disgusting. No one wants to smell your BO. And no, just soap and water alone doesn't cut it. If you need help figuring out the steps, shower and then RIGHT AFTER you shower apply deodorant and antiperspirant under your arms. Yes, EVERY time after you shower. WTF? People don't do this?

2. Gyms aren't the most pleasant smelling places, but that doesn't mean you should walk in there smelling like a pile of shit. Strong perfume and BO are highly frowned upon. Again, quit being disgusting and wear some antiperspirant (it doesn't have to be scented morons, so quit making excusing for your disgusting habits).

That is all.

Stop having such a sensitive little nose you pussy. I'm not wearing deodorant to the gym PERIOD

I can't believe how many people here don't use deodorant/antiperspirant....

Here's a hint, you smell regardless if you think you do not. You don't notice your own funk unless it gets pretty bad.

Oh and using deodorant/antiperspirant before going to the gym, it is just freaking courtesy for other people because when you are sweating working out, your funk level rises exponentially. If someone knew they were going to rip a big huge stinky fart and just did it in the middle of the gym when they could of prevented everyone else from smelling it, you are that person but with BO.

This thread makes perfect sense at to why there are so many male virgins on the internet. To all who shower and don't use deodorant or an anti-perspirant, you SMELL, and no it's not clean. Maybe for an hour after you get get out of the shower you smell clean, but you'll smell un fresh later in the day. I bought some $8 clinical strength unscented deodorant from Target, call me crazy but if I can use something that has no sent, and can keep me from potentially smelling bad I think it's worth me spending a whole damn $8 every 2 months *shrug* And for those cheap asses, they have some $1.50 arm-n-hammer anti-perspirant that works decently, definitely better than soap+water.
a whole.

Here's a secret, people don't notice their own BO, if you're using only water + soap you don't smell clean. You know who else always claim all they need to smell clean is water + soap? Hippies, I hope y'all enjoy smelling like hippies. Deodorant isn't a gimmick, it works. Here's another secret a lot of people are simply too polite to tell you that you stink, so just because you don't smell it, and nobody comments on your odor, it doesn't mean you don't smell musty.
What about people that use deodorant soaps? Irish Spring, etc...
I know those things sell a lot. Do they actually work?

I use Dove soap myself so I don't get the fascination when I see some men buying Irish Spring.
The impression I get from those kind of soaps is that they don't do any actual cleaning...they just make you smell good. And they made my skin dry as hell when I used them.

I respect women. You should too.

+1

Respect is a 2-Way Street....

Different between Good Girls vs Bad Girls:
Good Girls do the very same Bad Girls do, just Good Girls do Very Good...

Same with a guys from a Woman's point of view...., I think...

I do respect women too...Never called or I will call a woman "a bitch"
And, I think, real men do the same

Across the net, there are many "macho guys", who can not noting else but BS....

deodorant is for those too lazy to shower every day. I can't stand any type of perfume. sometimes it so thick I gag.

also, it doesn't smell 'clean', it smells like perfume. clean has no smell.

Hate to break it to you dude, but you stink. If you don't like scented, use unscented. But use something.

Most gyms that I have been to, recommend that you be freshly showered before working out. I make sure that I have showered at least that morning and use unscented antiperspirant. Then I shower afterward.

Although, dietary factors do play a role, I have seen many people of all ethnicities that present with BO. The BO will change in character with food, but will disappear when the patient is bathed. Those of larger girth tend to produce a larger amount of smell producing material including sweat and sebum. The sebum usually is what smells the worse and is easily removed. Sebum easily harbors bacteria more readily than sweat.
The offensive areas of the body are full of sebaceous glands. (I have to cut a few open every month, and boy do they stink)

That said, heavy perfumes and or cologne can be just as offensive (gives me a migraine).
My recommendation, if you suffer from strong body odor, shower twice a day, morning and evening and use an antibacterial soap. Apply antiperspirant. You may need to shower a third time if you work out.

Ditto

You know it's a revelation to me how many posters here are clearly pathological in their attitude toward body odors. Everybody has body odor. If you practice good hygiene and wear clean clothes your body odor should not offend. Masking it with deodorants, perfumes and colognes should not be necessary.

Let me give you a little primer on personal hygiene, clearly many have never had one, or maybe they've forgotten:

1. Shower with warm water. Get good and wet, then use soap, it doesn't have to be fancy, even a pure soap like Ivory is perfectly fine, but you should use a wash cloth, and you should give a lot of extra attention to your under arms. I won't tell you how to wash your hair. Rinse well, dry well with a clean towel.

2. Oral hygiene is extremely important. So many people have terrible breath and they evidently don't know it (I encounter extremely offensive breath far more frequently then offensive body odor). Brush your teeth at least daily, possibly twice daily using a fluoride toothpaste. Floss at least once a day thoroughly. There are other dental hygiene techniques, and perhaps you should be using them, it depends on the individual. You should see a good dentist and hygienist regularly, and take their advice. These techniques will not only prevent bad breath, they will prevent cavities and gum disease and save you from expensive dental procedures down the road.

Depending on the brand, they can work better than plain soap, but no, it cannot replacement a good deodorant. Plus many of the soaps with deodorants in them just add more fragrances that do nothing but mask body odor. It works, but not as effectively or for as long. The metrosexual in me would trust only using a soap with deodorant about as much as a "all in one" shampoo/conditioner.

It's sad that needs to even be recommended, I understand people who don't want to shower before they go to a gym, ok, but at my gym every time I go without fail. There's at least 1 dude who's borderline smelling like a homeless person. After this thread I'll look at them and try to imagine which ATOT member they are. I wonder if they have the same ATOT smug "it's a gym, fuck smelling good, I'm going to smell like rotting Hippo feces and fuck you if you don't like it!" attitude.
