Part #1: God damn Verison! I hate their guts! I got a phone for a Christmas present from my mother, who wanted be to be able to call and keep her aprised of my wearabouts. It is a StarTac from Motorolla. Within a month of me getting it, it started having problems. It would only dial out if you turned it off, then back on. Same for recieveing voice mail. The stinking batetry would only last about 2 hours on stand-by. I figured that Motorolla just overestimated on their ratings, so I ordered the biggest battery I could find for the phone ( 1800 mah ) and got about 6 hours of stand by. Concidering with the regular battery I should have gotten about 36 hours, I was not happy.

So I go to verison, and say phone broke. They say they have to update the software, as it could be that. Fine, whatever. They update it. Dial in and out works for about a month. Then starts doing the same damn thing. ( the battery still sucked. ) so I go back again. They say they only downloaded new tower codes, and not a firmware update. They have to do it again. Fine I say, just make it work. And it does. for about a month. ARRGH! I get pissed, and go back in. I say I want a new phone, because it is broken. no updating. gimme phone. they say I have to call motorolla who will send out another. ARRGH! I call them, they say go to verison store. ARRGH! I go back, tell them waht motorolla said, and they say, sure we will swap out. but they don't have the phone! ARRGH!

So they send me to another store, almost across the street. Ok, fine. I go there, they don't have it either. They send me to another store in Geneva. About 30 minutes away. they have stock, they checked. I get there, and no phone. They call another place in naperville, about 10 minutes away. they have 1 left. They save it for me. I got here, that phone is broken. Arrgh! They send me to another store, this one in schaumburg. They check to make sure it works. Cool. I drive over there, and they gave the damn thing to someone else in the 30 minutes it took me to get there!! I am fricking pissed! Time to shoot some kneecaps.

I cool down for a minute and think. I remember that verison has a insurance thingy, where if you break your phone, you get a new one. If it is not available, you get free upgrade. So I go to another store, this one their main one in schaumburg. right next to their headquarters in the state. I go in and buy insurance till the end of the year.

I walk back in 30 minutes later with a handful of parts. I accidently dropeed it out of my truck on the street. Opps. Can I have new phone?

<--- has the new 4 color motorolla phone. Cool. Problem solved.

part #2 I call my home, top make sure the phone works. Cool. Then I start on my way home. I go down roselle, which they are working on, and pouring concreete. 2 cars ahead of me, a suburban stops because a guy switched the sign from "slow" to "stop" The mercades behind him is bild, and runs righht in to the back of the sub at about 20-25 mph. Mercades is now 3 feet shorter. Suburpan had a scratch on the 2" reciever. Fricking moron. How do you miss a huge white vehicle taking up your entire vield of view? So my second call on my new cell was to 911. Everyone ok, some old guy driving the mercades ( like 70 ) and a kid ( 20-25 yr old ) in the sub.

Then, on the way home, I am coming up on a red light. a silver Cavileer is in front of me. I am way back, because she is swearving all over the palce ( still staying in her lane though ) talking on a cell phone. Dumb lady. The light in front of us turns red. We have a good 1/8 mile to the light. I start to slow down. She is oblivios, and goes right through the light at 40-45 or so, and nails a minivan turning left who has a green arrow. I jump out, and run to help. I toss my cell to the guy who was in the car behind the minivan, and tell him to call 911. I then notice he is one of my best friends. He also has EMT training. ( I am ski patrol, he is training to be a fireman ) I attend to the woman in the cavileer who is hurt badly, he attends to the minivan driver who is just shaken up. the girl in the cavaleer was NOT WEARING HER SEATBELT and the airbag smashed her head into the rear view mirror. I tear off the bottom of my shrit and try to stop the bleeding, while I try and hold her head steady. I tie my shirt off on her head, and hold her head. Within 2 minutes the ambulance crew was there, and we put on her neck brace, then loaded her up. She just kept saying "i'm sorry, i'm sorry" over and over, while trying to get out of the car. No no! You stay there. Listen to me. Don't move. Cops took my name addy and phone, along with my buddys.

Then my buddy and I went to my buddy's house and cleaned up, then went to get some lunch, and talked about how stupid people are.

Morals:

#1 Verison gives you the run around. for 7 months.

#2 When is someone going to introduce a "no cell while driving" bill damnit! I have seen them cause way too many accidents, or atleast be involved in some way. I know a few states have them, but I want them nationwide.

</end rant>

It's a good thing that you were there.

I was travelling home from work one night, it was late, maybe 1am. I was on a frontage road for I-10 in Biloxi. All of the sudden this van comes flying through the trees, across the ditch, and hits this SUV infront of me. Fortunately some skilled people stopped, and no one was hurt. They were on a cell phone.

I'm not usually for more laws, but distracted driving of all types *has* to stop.

Not sure, but it should be enabled. I used mine sometimes while driving and it is convenient, but I know for a fact that I do not pay as much attention while on a cell phone. You can see that other people don't also, and this is backed up in studies, so no need here for people to say that cellphones don't distract.

Cell phones suck for driving. I once hit a mailbox myself while talking and looking for a slip of paper. I was glad it was only a mailbox. Also I used to work for the Road Commision and I watched a guy drive into the back of a dump truck while talking on the phone. The truck had one of those huge yellow boxes filled with water on it. I wondered why he had that thing, after that I knew.

OMG, that sucks. I just got my Nokia 8265 for ATT yesterday and I'm pretty happy...

They'll never introduce a "no cell while driving" bill and even if they do, it won't pass. It just won't. The best we can hope for is that all states will require the use of handfree units while driving like in New York.

I was driving in my Cavalier to Verizon Wireless to replace my Motorola cellphone. As I was parking I noticed that some concrete splattered onto the Suburban next to me. "Oops" I yell and continue on my way...

I can live with hands free. Cell phone are a great electronic gadget. They should just not be used while driving. Taking your eyes of the road for any reason is a big no no in my book. That is one of the reasons I made sure to get a vehicle with steering wheel mounted radio controls.

<edit>
Horrable spelling. What's new?

*sigh* cell phones + motorists is far and away one of my biggest pet peeves. Seems like every time I get stuck behind some yoyo who's driving at seemingly random speeds or weaving I see them on a cell when I pass them. Just yesterday I watched some fool woman skid halfway through an intersection after not noticing the light had turned red since she was too busy yakking away on her cell (hands-free no less). I had some extra-choice words for her as I rode around her to cross the road on my way home. :|

Good job Evadman! I hear you about Chicago drivers. A few weeks ago I was on 55 going to the city, and I start to get on the exit for 90. There was some dumbass in a old(late 1980's) minivan barreling down right behind. He noticed that I am stopped along with the cars in front of me because of traffic, so he panic stops and locks up his brakes. He then slams into the concrete barrier at the side of the road, screwing up his vans front corner. Luckily he got control of the vehical again and was able to stop on the side of the road. As you know, just wait until winter and starts snowing, then it's a whole new ballgame!

Also, my take on verizon is they have the best towers and coverage for the Chicago land area, but rank last in a tie with Sprint for customer service. I get reception almost anywhere, but when you call them up to get something done, they don't do it.
