No "business" data is to be stored ON anything except for our servers. Everyone here knows it, and he lost "personal" data.
Next time, would you please list this very critical bit of information in your first post. Everyone here reamed you since we all figured when data is lost on a business machine that it was buisness data. Thus wanton distruction of that data is a very bad thing to do. Now that you say that you backed up the buisness data and let the personal trash get deleted, it is a whole other story. We would have all been here cheering you on if you would have simply stated that to begin with.
Why this information wasn't in the original post mystifies me.

I hate it when people put documents in odd places like within program files folders and expect you to backup their data perfectly.

FS&T can search the whole drive based on wildcards, it can search for *.doc and get them wherever they are.

Thank you, I didn't want to have to say it again! 😀

That is true. Cable God is in the right.

No, Cable Guy was lucky in his stupidity! Imaging software is your friend.

No, it's obvious you didn't read the whole thread in your own stupidity.

I did! THat is why I called you lucky in your stupidity.

An oppurtunity presented itself where you could choose to appear valuable or an ass. You unfortunately chose the latter. Maybe IT isn't your thing. Your career path is aimed right at the BMV. 🙂

If the guy seemed to be content without his information for 7 months, then it can't be that important.
Now that, folks, is an ignorant statement.

Care to explain why? You do realize how long 7 months is, right?

And for future reference, ANY decent business does not keep their business data on client workstations, it's all stored server-side. You call CableGod a crappy IT but you don't even have common sense enough to grasp a basic principle like that.

The guy got a new (COMPANY) system, and went seven months without bothering to get data off of his old (COMPANY) system. He has no right to complain to IT, he was only using his available (COMPANY) resources.
