I'm trying to install a USB modem with a customer who has never been connected to the @Home network. If they're never connected and the customer installed the hardware theirself Tier1 is supposed to handle it.

The customer's computer is installing everything twice. There are two copies of everything in device manager when installed. sub removed one of the copies and rebooted, but the Add New Hardware Wizard comes up again and wants to install the second copy again.

And, to top it all off, a supervisor mensioned "oh, is it a self-install?" and I hit myself in the forehead. Boy, don't I feel stupid. Troubleshooting for 40 damn minutes on an unsupported issue. :|

Sometimes I scare myself. Some days I am better off not coming in to work.

usb sucks for everything except for scanners and digicams/webcams.

mouses and keyboards belong on the ps2, that's why it's there. ;)

USB for networks is an absolute worst idea! That's what network cards are for... especially considering the fact that they can be had for under $15.

No way, i love USB mouse and keyboards.. especially if you ahve to swap the mouse and keyboards (doesn't happen too often, but when i do, it's good not having to reboot).

Exactly dc. Mice and keyboards belong on PS/2 ports. Also, USB is too CPU intensive. Have you ever scrolled with the wheel on your mouse while it is connected to a USB port? It usually results in 1/3 of the CPU in use. Also, whenever Windows detects 2 of something I always remove both before restarting to make sure only 1 instance of the device is found

Those USB NIC's are really buggy. We had one for a while on @home that would randomly lose connection to the network... A real NIC fixed the problem.

I have a USB mouse, and it's pretty cool. I'd rather have the PS/2 because it's a Razor Boomslang and I want the better refresh rates for it, but I don't have the converter.

But if I ever get @Home, I will NEVER get USB crap!!! I'll kick the tech out of my house if he shows up with it. :)

I have a USB printer, camera, scanner, mp3 player, and interface for PDA and they all work fine...

I just bought a Gravis GamePad Pro USB version. On the box it states that it only works with Win9x, not NT or 2000. Apparently my gamepad didn't get the memo because it only works in 2000 and not in 98.
