*RANT* Turbo Tax activation + new HD = ARRRGG!

ok, it's April 15th TAX DAY

i finished my taxes back in Feb, but i didnt mail it in since i owe $. well, since then i got a new hard drive, and installed all the basic stuff from scratch.

toay i'm going to mail my 1040, but i forgot to print a copy for myself. no problem till i saw i didnt have turbo tax loaded. (backup data files are on floppy so no problem there.)

i installed it, and it tells me i need to activate it. but it wont activate because i've already done it under my old hd. arrg..so choices are:

1) pop open the case, remove new hd, put in old hd as master, etc, etc
2) scan in 1040 (~10 sheets) using my free Staples scanner

i'm lazy and dont feel like rebooting, so i'm opting for scanning. i think the scanner is the *MOST* useful thing i got for free from staples.

anyway, thats my rant. lets see what happens on oct 1,2003 when supposely you no longer need activation for turbotax 2002.
 
Supposedly since everyone was pissed about only being able to install it on one computer, they changed it with an update to remove that protection. So just install it, update it, then you should be able to restore the files and finish.

Seriously, I used Tax Cut this year and truly loved the product. Sorry, Turbo Tax, Tax Cut will be getting my money for future tax software.

 
I'm happy to say the Seattle Times business section had an article stating their earnings were way down because of negative publicity over their copy-protection scheme. Sometimes software evildoers are punished. Of course unlike some other company they don't have a monopoly on their product . . . .

Yes, but, a few years ago Microsoft tried to take over Intuit (Turbo Tax & Quicken.) However, their attempt to buy that company out was shot down.

Same here. Tax Cut works great! And they mail out the rebate checks for the software/e-filing pretty quickly. 🙂

 
That's why I used TaxCut this year and probably will permanantly switch to it. I've used TurboTax for the past 6 years. Never again.
