/rant tired of being in pain.

waggy

No Lifer
i been having a lot of pain lately (well have been in pain for years. just getting worse lately). So the pain management doc wanted me to get a bone scan and then off to see a ruamataloguist doctor. He think that i have RA.

So i go in Friday. to see him.

he had the bone scan up and said they missed some when diagnosing so he had me do more x-rays. he said he seen arthritis in both shoulders (left far worse), where the collar bone connects to the breast bone (which never hurt until he started poking at it), rip tips (hmm beef rip tips /drool), both elbows, both wrist, both hip sockets and the back part of the hip (which again never hurt until he poked at it. then felt like someone was stabbing me) and finally both knees!

the then started messing with my fingers and found one was disfigured and it was causing me pain (x-ray and bone scan didn't show it).

good news is no damage in back or feet/toes!

since it is marked as being allergic to aspirin in my medical report he wants more lab test.

he kept asking me questions about pain. At night when in bed my knees throb. he knew exactly what i meant when i said it.

He put me on Naproxen 500mg but can't be filled until the blood work comes back. sigh.

he was very through and nice. but while getting the blood work he talked to my wife more and took off (it was like 5pm at that time heh been in there 2 hours) so i didn't get to ask him the results.

got another appointment with him i think in 2 weeks. sigh hopefully i can find out whats going on. I just want to know a reason why i am in pain all the time and always feel like i need to take a nap. sigh

But the best news is the Bears are going to the Superbowl! woot!

You can get Naproxen OTC, no need to wait for a prescription. I take it sometimes when my wrist hurts from playing too much WoW, works quite well.

yeah he does. sat in the waiting room for 2 hours. i was getting ticked off.

then when i got in to see him and seen all the time he takes i understood. the guy was great. asked a lot of questions and answered everything. Also explained everything he was doing and why.

just was hoping to get a diagnoses.

on bad part about him is he has a very bad sense of humor.

no they don't hurt now. just when poked heh.

Bone scan was kinda scary. they inject you with a die that has radioactive symbol on it. he carried it in a steel carry case heh.

after a few hours you lay down on a machine and it scans you. kinda like a MRI type thing. have to lay down perfectly still for like 20 minutes.

How old are ya? or if you dont want to answer that just tell me what age you started to feel the pain, and how many years it has been since then...

Better make another appointment for the doc, for when the Bears lose the Super Bowl. That is going to hurt.

NOOO@ they will win! they knocked off one team of destiny! they will do another!

I feel your pain.. pun intended.

I have had abdominal pain for 6 months and have had numerous examinations by my GI dr. I've had a colonoscopy and it showed I had diverticulitus and I was given pain medicine and antibiotics.

That was 4 months ago and I am still in pain and nauseated, so much so that I can't sit at my desk without getting sick and feeling like I'm going to pass out. He's written me so many different prescriptions that I have to ask him each time I go to remind me which ones I need to be taking.

It's depressing and it makes me not want to eat..

Better make sure you don't visit the dump or an airport. 😉

That long wait and his being humor challenged are more than made up for by the fact that he seems to actually CARE and take the time to do things right. That can be rare these days. Hope everything works out OK for you!

Hi Waggy, I know how you feel. I?m 32 years old, and I went through this crap a few years ago.

Went to general practitioner for pain in ankles and feet, got x-rays that show nothing. Got sent to podiatrists who are baffled about why the pain doesn?t go away and moves around. Go back to podiatrists for a year and they aren?t helping. Go home to Taiwan for holidays and get a full workup of x-rays and bone scans. Get put on nasty herbal medicine which is useless. Give up for a while.

Go back to general practitioner who suggests a rheumatologist. Rheumatologist can?t figure out why I didn?t come to him earlier. He takes me through arrays of drugs for about a year. We eventually settle on Humira because it?s the only thing that seems to work. Unfortunately, it costs $1500 a month so I have to battle the insurance company every six months to keep me on it.

Good luck!

Any idea what caused it to begin with?

nope. it just happens.

some think its hereditary (my mom does have RA pretty bad).

that sucks.
my insurance pays for most. so far they have paid for nearly everything (they now charge $15 a PT visit!). we got lucky on that.

The doc probably ran a liver function test. Damaged liver and pain killers do not play well together (save for the opioid variety, try to get oxycodon 😉 ).
