Last Thursday I jumped on the Averatec laptop deal at BB, when I placed my order on their website it was showing the laptop as being in stock with expected shipment in 2-3 days. Cool. I check my order status on Saturday and it now shows as "backordered". I call CS and they told me that it's OOS and it may take them up to 25 days before they get more in. Hmmmmm.. I wasn't even notified of backorder, but OK. I ask if my CC has been charged and they say no, the CC gets charged only when order ships. I tell them to cancel the order and they did. I went to their website to make sure it shows as cancelled and sure enough it was. Cool.

On Sunday I find a great deal on IBM lappy through their ebay store. I place the order. It gets shipped today. Cool.

Today, I go to ATM to get some cash before going to work and waddaya know? The machine aborts my transaction and spits out a receipt showing a negative balance of almost $300.00 WTF? I suppose to have $600-700 in my account? I walk inside the branch and ask the clerk to pull the transaction history for me. Anyone wants to guess what happened?

That's right! Those BB idiots placed my funds "on hold for pending order":|

:| I call them and they tell me that in fact they do place funds on hold for every order and if the order gets cancelled, it takes up to seven days to release them back! WTF?????!!!!!!!! I ask who's going to be responsible for overdraft fees and they tell me "Guess it's you sir". When I ask to talk to the supervisor they tell me that supervisors don't deal with the customer!

FU@K!NG IDIOTS! I AM DONE WITH BB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry folks, but I had to vent.

I think I will take Zim's advice and send a letter to their HQ, I know there will be no response but at least I will be at peace with myself. I am $35 in overdraft fees in a hole, not to mention won't get to use my money for few days and had to borrow to get gas. I feel so upset right now...

Its worth the $35 in overdraft fees to have the IBM laptop over the Averatec laptop.

Don't send a letter.

Call their Human Resources number.

HR's job is to treat the customer with kid gloves after he's been jacked by the lower level people. They usually make things quite right.

Are you sure you're getting charged for NSF fees? Funds on hold are not the same as funds charged.

actually, it's quite a common practice for merchants to place your fund on hold & it DO usually take 3-7 days to release back.

the fund is NOT taken out of your account, but it will decrease your available credit line / fund available in your account.

Bestbuy - Turn on the fun...

dude, you should not be using your check card to purchase things. You should've used some other credit card. I think you know quite well why I say this right now. Live and learn.

I think I know what you're saying but..... 1) I don't use credit cards anymore as I am trying to get out of debt. Nowdays, if I can't pay cash for something (exceptions would be a new car or a house) I can't afford it. 2) Debit cards (with Visa/MC logo) do have the same level of protection against internet fraud now, at least my bank does.

Sluggo - you're right. I've owned a number of TP's and they have always been my favorite. I guess it's my punishment for not staying loyal to IBM, lol I wish I came across that deal few days earlier, got TP R31 for $629.00 plus shipping/tax with one year warranty from IBM.

Tabb - forget about it man. I am not suing them, it would take me down to their level and that is something I do not want to do.

I went there looking for a dvd the other day - but while I was there, I realized that I hate the store so much. So I left without buying the movie.

The next day I had the urge to buy it online from Best Buy to screw my local store - but remembered that I hate the whole corporation, so I once again didn't buy anything.

Best Buy is most definitely suck.

By the way - it is hours and hours of dealing with their customer service that has caused me to dislike them.

it was said earlier, but holding of funds is NOT unusual. AT this very moment i have $150.00 in funds being held EVEN after the purchase had been made and the $150.00 in question had already been taken out. it will take another couple of days for those funds to be released.

it happens.

any place you shop at will do this....they put the charges as pending as soon as you order and they turn it into a charge once they ship it.

Technically the money is still in your account when its on hold, but its earmarked for that company. It makes since because what if you order items from like 20 different companies, and when they check funds are always available. Once they do ship and try to charge you, all 20 of em will try to get their money but you may by then already be over your limit and they are SOL.

This is really your fault....deal with it. This should just teach you to never use your check card for online purposes...for stuff like this to happen.

He's right, NEVER EVER use a visa debit card to buy things online. The potential risk of major headache is too great. If you're too in debt to use your normal cc, you should be putting all your cash into paying them off, not buying laptops online. (Not trying to sound harsh, that's what any financial counselor would say).

Debit cards may claim to offer the same level of protection, but would you rather have a $300 charge you don't need to pay on your cc, or $300 less in your bank account while they process the fee reversal?

I was listening to the Laura Ingrham show last night, she is a syndicated talk show host. She was ripping Best Buy also, but do to their tech support. She basically said "Don't shop at Best Buy". I thought it was hilarious.
