****SPOILERS**** if you haven't seen "the departed" yet.

Now that The Departed has won its dubiously- deserved Best Picture Oscar, the question becomes, when is the sequel? Granted, it?s really hard to make a sequel to a film where everyone has died, so maybe Warner Bros. should consider going the way of Infernal Affairs, the superior film upon which The Departed was based.

first fvcking two lines in the article. the douche doesn't say spoilers until the end of the first paragraph. i stayed away from the thread here, didn't bother to check the wiki about it, and told people to STFU until i got it from netflix only to have the ending ruined by looking at different movie review.

next time put spoilers in your fvcking article or actually talk about the fvcking movie in question not a different movie that was based off the prequel. :|

How about don't read movie reviews about the movie you're planning on watching?

Don't need to. My point still stands.

actually it doesn't. if you click the LINK you will quickly realize that the movie in review is "infernal affairs 2" not "the departed."

 way to look like a jackass.

Am I the only one who is tired of people going on about how Infernal Affairs is better than The Departed?

Not to mention the whole point of a movie review is to determine whether you want to watch a movie... saying you shouldn't read it before watching is just plain stupid.

I don't need to click the link because you already stated what the link is about.

My point still stands.

How about judging a movie based on your own opinions? Unless you like other people telling you what to think.

How do you watch a movie without anyone telling you what to think? Do you watch every single movie at your local theater? Why do you choose to watch movies in the first place? Previews are all about manipulation - a review might actually help you decide.

To me, it seems like you'll end up liking whichever movie you watch first. The second movie will always look like a knock-off. My friends and I watched Infernal Affairs first, so we thought it was much better than The Departed.

But I did hear that Infernal Affairs got snubbed during the Oscars when the announcer said The Departed was based on a Japanese movie, when in fact it was a HK/Chinese movie.

now i get it. you expect me to just netflix a movie all willy-nilly. nevermind that i don't know what a movie is about. i should just get it. lots of people watched 'gigli' so i better add that to the list. i like scary horror film type flicks. 'primeval' looked like it was a horror film from the trailer, i'd better get that too.

the point of looking at a review is to see if it is in the genre you like. your point is standing like a two-legged chair.

If you're asking me how I pick out the movies, I base my selections on:

1. pseudo-randomly chosen based on what the movie is about, i.e. the premise
2. the studio/director/actors/actresses (to some minor extent)
3. what I know or have seen about the movie already, e.g. Pirates of the Caribbean 3, TMNT
4. what friends and family have in their collection because lets face it, its free

I'm not going to claim that my selection method nets only good movies because it doesn't. But it does net me movies that I want to see based on my preferences. Sometimes I'll see a movie and think it was funny while everyone says its not and vice versa. So what?

You need a review to tell you that?

Do you pick your clothes based on what other people say too?

please tell me about, "Wet Hot American Summer" "The Mission" and "123". also let me know if there are any special menus on the dvds. with reviews i can found out about the movie in question and also hear about any easter eggs in the dvd.

lets look at what you do
1. pseudo-randomly chosen based on what the movie is about, i.e. the premise
2. the studio/director/actors/actresses (to some minor extent)
3. what I know or have seen about the movie already, e.g. Pirates of the Caribbean 3, TMNT
4. what friends and family have in their collection because lets face it, its free

so where do you get the premise from? the little blurb that the producer tells you? that has bit us all in the ass before. remember pearl harbor and how it was a love story with action, i don't let that BS happen to me anymore.

studios, directors, actors, and actresses don't do the same thing over and over and over. sometimes their work is hit and miss. take "alexander" for example. i like oliver stone but i will stay the hell away from the movie.

family and friends are nice to get free movies from. however, i'm not going to take 'african queen' from my mom just because it is available. i'd rather waste time on ATOT.

the main point of my rant was really about keeping on topic, ie only talking about the movie in question. if you don't like reviews, fine, STFU and keep on going with your life.

Sorry Nostradamus, I can't tell if a movie is going to suck without watching it first. People read movie reviews to determine whether they should waste 2 hours and $10 seeing the movie.

Why can't anyone ever admit they're wrong on Anandtech? You said "How about don't read movie reviews about the movie you're planning on watching?" HE DIDN'T. Now you're trying to use all sorts of retarded reasoning to continue to blame this on the OP so you can save face. You said something stupid. It happens. Accept it.

I don't have the same interest level in every movie that I watch. And if I really liked a movie, I'd buy the DVD regardless of what "extras" may be included.

My rules work for me. I don't care if they don't work for you.

Did you not know The Departed was based on Infernal Affairs?
